I dare you to write fluff about hedwig yelling at snape to go love his son
Harry is fast asleep at his desk by the time that Severus enters his room. Severus is tired. He aches in places he didn't know he could ache, but his son comes first. He gently pickups the boy, and the younger man immediately curls up into him, with his head laying gently into his shoulder.
Severus: "Hush now child, I know for a fact that you haven't been sleeping"
Severus walks over to the bed, and attempts to deposit the half asleep boy into it. Harry simply burrows into him even more. He sighs and decides to sit on the bed until the boy falls asleep.
Harry: "Hard to sleep when your dad's gone"
Severus stiffens, much to the dismay of the slightly delirious boy before gently running a hand through his ward's hair. Harry lets out a noise of contentment and shifts in his lap to find a more comfortable position.
Severus: "Nevertheless I have returned and we will be having a serious discussion on neglecting your health in the morning."
Harry: "Mkay but can you not yell and stuff, makes me feel bad."
Severus sighs, this boy makes it so hard to discipline him.
Severus: "Very well, I will endeavor to keep my temper in check"
Harry: "Great I'm gonna sleep now"
Harry lets his head drop onto the shoulder once again and sighs happily. He falls asleep with a smile on his face, but he won't remember any of this in the morning.
Severus sighs: "what am I supposed to do with you?"
Hedwig flies over to him and nips him hard enough to show her displeasure.
Severus: "Now don't you start"
Severus "I have no idea why he thinks those things? He's one of the best children one could be blessed to care for. He is effortlessly kind, he takes care of himself, he tries so hard. It's true that we have little in common, but that just lets me learn more about the world. I used to not care about the topics that he likes until he explained them to me. I even got him the new quidditch book he told me about."
Severus: "Well, no I haven't told him that"
Severus: "The boy is obviously desperate for a father figure; it's the only reason he chose me. He deserves better than someone who had to learn to be kind, than someone who made his schooling hell on earth, he deserves better than me."
Severus: "I suppose that you're right, I'm the best he's got."
Severus suddenly realizes he's been having an entire conversation with a fucking owl and decides he should sleep. He gently lays the boy down onto his bed, and tucks him in. And if he gives Harry a forehead kiss along with his gifts well then that is nobody's business but his own.
