I want Bruce to have a break down. Not a cool edgy one, like a pathetic sob fest. Almost disturbing to see this grown man crying this much. Why? Because he just doesn't get it.

He doesnt get why hes so broken.

He doesnt get why he always gets the short end of the stick.

He doesnt get why he can't just understand people.

He doesnt like making his family angry. It doesn't make him feel good when theyre practically boiling with rage and stop talking to him for months. Especially when hes trying so hard. He's able to pass as normal with the public because they only see him in curated moments. His children see him as he truly is.

And he truly is a ugly thing.

So one day, after years of misunderstanding and silent treatments, he breaks. He tried not to. He always made sure to go hide somewhere to cry to not burden his children with his ugly emotions. But he cant this time.

He just doesn't get it.

What did he do wrong? Why can't he fix it? Why can't he be right?

Why can't he be enough.

And so, in front of all of his children. He cries. They have never seen him cry. Not like this. Especially not falling to his knees and sobbing.

Asking over and over again. Why?

They don't have an answer.

They don't have anything. Anything other than the sickly feeling of dread. Because they know they brought him to this point.

Not gods, monsters, or terrorists.

No, only his own children could bring the batman to his knees.

So, very Batman coded. And it gave me an idea.

Bruce paused.

It was no use fighting them, he could try, but not really.

Not when it was just Dick and him. Not when Jason joined. Not when the rest joined. Arguing was useless. They wouldn't change their minds even if he gave them reasoning, even if he gave them his part, his side.

It is and was of no use.

"Barely a man.'

He knew that. He'd lost his humanity a long time ago, he doesn't know excectly when; maybe when Jason died? No, before that, Dick had said so. Maybe during training, somewhere between all the horrors?

Maybe in that alleyway.

Point is, his these kids had noticed it too: they too had discovered the ugly, filthy monster underneath.

He wasn't Batman, he wasn't Brucie Wayne, maybe he wasn't even Bruce Wayne. Maybe all he ever was, he ever is, ever will be, is a monster.

Inhuman.

Barely a man.

He knows this! Why is it keeping him awake? Why do their words join the other's in the melody of failures just as quickly. This wasn't new information!

Bruce sat up and breathed, in.. and out..

He really needed to clear his head.

It had slipped out of Dick's mouth before he could really process it. The silence Bruce gave in response had notified him he'd gone to far.

He didn't want to feel bad, he meant it. Bruce was way too emotionally constipated. He acted with whatever fragile masculinity he had left, barely a man.

But really, he did feel bad. The way Bruce had stared at him like he was afraid. Dick wasn't sure what the better outcome was.

I love how Damian lets Jon carry him, rides his back, he doesn’t care he’s just like ‘let’s go’

And Bruce is like ‘no don’t carry me Clark’ and Clark’s like ‘everything is literally collapsing and death is inevitable’ and Bruce’s like ‘no I’m going to ride my batscooter out’ and this is the batscooter

I say this with my full chest as a Dick Grayson fan that the important thing for a writer to keep in mind while writing Dick is that his superpower is his ability to connect with people, his ability to lead and inspire and befriend, and that he is like half the superhero community's emergency contact. He is also constantly in the middle of five messy situationship breakups because he's shit at handling his interpersonal affairs.
