“I LOVE that game!” (watched a letsplay and commentary about it)
“There are no trigger warnings in real life”
“The real world is cruel, get over it.”
My boyfriend is triggered by Christmas and Christmas music. We were in a restaurant, and Christmas music was playing, and he started panicking so he went outside for a cigarette. The manager of the restaurant overheard him saying he had to get out, and changed the music over for the rest of the time we were there. There are safe spaces in the real world. People are nicer than you think. And bullshit people who try to tell you to get over your triggers, ain’t shit.
people who say shit like this are egotistical and selfish. ignore them. there is goodness in the world, even if we have to be the ones giving it to ourselves.
Listen, listen.
I’m Jewish and I play Fallout 4.
I had a mod recommended to me called Constructable Crosses. It’s a bunch of different kinds of Christian religious iconography so you can build a church in your settlements if you want to.
I asked if it wouldn’t be too much trouble, maybe, since the author had another update planned, if maybe he could add a Magen David to hang outside a synagogue? And I would pay him?
I expected that I might be ignored or told no. At best, there would be one “okay” example of a Magen David and I’d use it because it was all that was available.
This dude went out and built an entire mod. And refused payment. He actually learned how to make a model to make a really gorgeous menorah, and put together a stunning range of chanukkiyot so you can, if you want, “light candles” for Chanukkah in your game. (And yes, I actually did this, it was fun.) He put together some wall hangings of the Ten Commandments. He made over a hundred kippah models so you can wear one as long as you have a vanilla hairstyle. The only thing the mod lacks that even the poorest synagogue would try to have, and I have maintenance rights on the mod so when I learn to make models I’ll be adding it, is a sefer Torah.
(Ironically, there is no Magen David. But since you can put up a literal actual menorah, that point is moot.)
People are kind. People are good. You just have to find them.

White vegans are going to kill us all.
The cognitive dissonance it would take to vote Conservative over a few animal welfare policies when this is the same party that supports the oil and gas industry and is trying to make us do less about climate change (which will make entire species go extinct), is pro-hunting and guns and supports the factory farming of animals.
Like I get it, if you care about animal welfare, that’s fine but don’t just jump at the first party that says something nice without actually examining what they represent as a whole.

Ecofascists be like ‘I’m voting Tory because they said Buttons the Rabbit won’t be tested on *frowny face*’
Some of my followers have expressed confusion as to the dead dove situation! That is okay.
There is a show called Arrested Development. There is one specific scene where a character finds a bag in the fridge. The bag is labeled “DEAD DOVE DO NOT EAT!” The character looks inside the bag. It is a dead dove. The character looks up and says, “I don’t know what I expected.”
The bag warned specifically what was inside it. The character looked anyway and found what the bag warned about. It was not the bag’s fault he looked, nor the fault of the person who labeled the bag, because, hey, they warned anyone who looked at it there is a dead dove in this bag. It is entirely the fault of the character who looked, and he admits that by saying he didn’t know what he expected other than what he was warned for.
This warning phrase has become a tag for authors, mostly because people are looking at the warnings, reading the fic, and then complaining about things they were warned about beforehand. It is the authors saying, “You read the tags and looked anyway. That is on you, not on me, because I warned you. You made the choice to open the fic and read it. You made the choice to open the bag.”
I’ve found that when I find this tag on a fic, it’s because it deals with some pretty heavy stuff, so I like it as a reminder to check the tags carefully and read any notes the author may have before I decide to dive into a fic. In the end, what you consume is your choice, and if you read something you don’t like despite the author’s warnings (like I did yesterday), that’s on you. I should have closed the window when I realized what was happening and I didn’t, and that’s on me.
i love that the phrase is “in love” like love is a place. like somewhere you could live.
people really just read books like “no thoughts head empty 🤪”
between white women on tiktok saying they only read books for the romance and people on tumblr forcibly applying ao3 tropes to narratives i’m beginning to think maybe you all should’ve paid more attention in 10th grade english class
I was talking to this girl on hinge and we got onto the topic of books (i work in a bookshop), and she asked me if i had any favourite tropes to read? And for the life of me i couldn't figure out how to respond? Like Ms, i dont read fanfic, i dont understand what youre asking. I dont think 'tropes' can be used interchangeably with 'genre'. We dont have a section at work for shit like 'enemies to lovers' im sorry thats not how real literature works
I thought this post was gonna go somewhere relevant and interesting for a full second, but I guess not. Tropes are older than dirt. The idea of a trope has existed as long as humans have been making things, and it’s not empty-brained to ask what tropes someone might enjoy reading. For example, someone could answer: haunted houses. rivalries that span decades. tales of revenge. generational family dramas. coming of age stories. stuck in a snowstorm with a killer. The word trope is just a way people currently talk and think about concepts in literature that we’ve been thinking and talking about for ever. It just adds a layer of specificity. If you can’t comprehend someone asking you what tropes you like to read, you might not totally understand what a trope is, and that doesn’t make the other person dumb.
What I was hoping this post might touch on is how people cling to book reading as a hobby that will make them automatically smarter or more superior than those who aren’t, no matter how little mental engagement they actually put into reading. There are people who shit on novels like Things Fall Apart, The Jungle, and Invisible Man for not being “entertaining enough.” There are people who base their entire personality on being an avid reader who chose to never think critically or challenge themselves. There are people who think reading makes you more empathetic by default, when in reality anyone, even terrible people, can project themselves onto the hero if they can’t think critically about their own life and choices.
People can just be into romances, that isn’t inherently stupid. Nor are knowing what tropes they enjoy. That’s just how some people engage with books, and we shouldn’t be looking down at people for that. I have way more issue with the white goodreads users who rate Things Fall Apart as two stars and start their review “I guess I’m racist for not liking this.” I too am annoyed at the failure of public education, and I too was flabbergasted when someone on reddit asked “what’s the point of comparing two very different books to each other” when I pointed out that American Psycho kinda has Lovecraftian themes. But you’re falling off the mark here, to go on about how you hate tropes because they can also be applied to fanfiction tags. 🙄 This attitude is how people start calling themselves sapiosexual.
The way Legolas and Arwen approach falling in love with a mortal is really, really funny to me because
Arwen: I will give up my immortality, and my chance to see my mother and father again, because I would rather die with you than live forever after you’re gone.
Legolas, building a ship: Hey Gimli have you ever heard of this little thing called breaking and entering because we’re going to do it to heaven.
you know when you’re overwhelmed and you just stand in the middle of your room like this
yeah
truly tired of the caucasity of all these milquetoast blonde lady dragon age oc’s\

feminism will be reached when nintendo gives us Wapeach and Wadaisy
and they have to be just as deranged as Waluigi and Wario or it doesn’t count. I want some truly awful possum-like women, no Bowsette shit
So they took wayyy longer than they should have but here’s my shot at Wadaisy (left) and Wapeach (right). Blease injoy
YOU UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT THESE ARE AWESOME
I want to play too! Ok so my reasoning behind this is: I wanted to keep Wario and Waluigi’s general shape language, and sort of stick to the Super Mario series’s general design rules. So I wanted to end up with female characters that weren't Peach copies, who looked fun to play as, and who gave out possum energy. Thank you passionpeachy for the prompt! This was super fun.
EVERY ADDITION TO THIS POST GIVES ME LIFE
Wedding dresses r so weird and fucked up u spend 7k to buy a dress you will literally wear like once. Or twice if you decide to put it on when you have a breakdown and like axe murder your husband or whatever
is it actually queerbaiting or do people just ship them en masse and get annoyed when it’s not canon
is it actually bury your gays, or did a gay character in a story full of diverse, well developed characters (some of whom are also queer) happen to die
Let's start an initiative to teach young girls to sing this cute song.
