I think part of it is that in the animated series I believe they made him like 6’4 to be more intimidating. 5’10 is of course by no means short but in comparison to many other characters and aliens found in Star Wars, maul is kind of short with his original height. (Also I find it hilarious how fucking small he looks next to the other characters even if they’re stilts and prosthetics)

The wookipedia I think lists specifically Maul's height, separate from Ray Park, as 5'8-9" and his Mandalorian leg height as 6'4.4". So in the scenes pictured he "should" be 5'8 or 5'9, which is still taller than most, just not dramatically so

This is helpful for my fanfic, but also like, average height men getting called short for not being over 6' is not good for body dysmorphia issues. Like it doesn't matter because haha big scary sith man not so big is an easy joke and I get smol blorbo but also like I feel like it needs to be said. I head canon that the political intrigue involved in covertly tracking down his assignments was some of his favorite parts of his work. So gossip, plotting, personal reads, all of that would have him engrossed. Like I feel like he would devour historical romance dramas

Something about the bastardization of the story time and time again proves that nobody in power really cares about the people who would resonate with King’s Carrie White. A girl so ugly and repulsive she’s been removed from her own story. The societal need for women and girls to be constantly perceived as attractive is what fuels a fair amount of her torment in the book, but that person isn’t even allowed to exist on the screen. We cannot empathize with her; it isn’t allowed. It’s fascinating to me.

One thing I think the fandom sometimes forgets is that Maul is canonically disabled. He is an amputee. Not just missing a limb or a few fingers, but his ENTIRE lower half. There are definitely some fics out there that really do this characterization well though.

Yeah, he's incredibly capable in combat, and his cybernetic legs let him do things that seem almost impossible. But that doesn't change the fact that he lost the entire lower half of his body. It’s one of the defining aspects of his character, physically and mentally. Maul: Shadow Lord also reminds us that his prosthetics come with limitations and aren't a perfect replacement for a biological body.

Which got me thinking about something I can't stop wondering:

How does Maul actually eat, digest and pass food?

Do you think his cybernetics include something like a stoma or an artificial waste-processing system? Has there ever been any lore that addresses this, or is it just one of those questions we're not supposed to think too hard about? I have yet to see anyone talk about this.

I like to think it does, but it's not as effective as it could be. Maul just doesn't notice because he developed an eating disorder from Sidious's training involving withholding food, messing with Maul's food, and/or only allowing him to eat scraps and then shaming him for being hungry. He already associates eating with being uncomfortable so he can't tell the difference from the refeeding syndrome and his cybernetics not properly digesting his food.

Every time I think about Naboo it gets worse it get. Of course Palpatine is from Naboo, he’s like the planet’s perfect son.

Why would the physical manifestation of oppression come from Naboo it’s not like our planet is segregated and the native population can’t travel off world or trade with the greater galaxy unless it’s through our spaceport.
