New Art Blog
Hi everyone! I am changing my main art blog over to fernandfoil.tumblr.com. If you are wanting to see new art going forward, I will be posting there. Thanks!
Inktober days 21 - 25. Getting a bit more comfortable with doing spot blacks, so this exercise has been good. This time around we have a fairy with whisky (and a redraw of the image that was this year’s theme), a satyr drowning himself in wine, a dullahan with ale, a yeti with a tom & jerry, and medusa with a large bahama mama.
Inktober days 16 - 20. Really pleased with the vampire out of this set. For this set there is an imp with a rum sunset, a dragon with cognac, a vampire with a bloody mary, a dryad with a mimosa, and a mandrake throwing a fit and breaking his liquor glasses.
Inktobers from days 11 through 15. I really like the line weights on the cyclops and cockatrice. These fantasy creatures include a cyclops enjoying a whisky on the rocks with spherical ice, a troll with a barrel of chosen alcohol, a cockatrice and a snifter of brandy, a sphinx with a beer hat, and a carbuncle with a glass of red wine.
Inktobers round 2. Having a lot of fun doing these and really getting in some good practice. Even did a wet into wet technique I rarely ever do and while not perfect, I’m certainly learning. This round includes a kappa trying to enjoy a shochu, a tipsy tanuki with sake, a mermaid with a hurricane, a harpy with mead, and a phoenix with ice wine.
First round of Inktobers from this year. My theme is fantasy creatures enjoying alcoholic beverages at a bar. My primary goal is to work with more solid black areas and my secondary goal is to have better line variation. Will be posting these in groups of 5. Head over to my Instagram if you’d like to see posts every day. This round includes a slime with a pina colada, a specter with a flaming shot, a red cap with colored beer, a naga with a strawberry daiquiri, and a hydra fighting over shot.
Here’s the second dragon terrarium I have done. I’m still pleased with the water effect I got in it. Gouache is not really transparent and can be difficult to work with when watered down like watercolor.
Been away too long on here. I’m trying to decide how I want to resume posting on tumblr, so there may be some experimenting going on. Til then, here’s a picture of one of my new gouache pieces. I’m doing a series of dragon terrariums. Hadn’t done a cactus themed one yet so had fun with that.
Oh man, it has been way to long since I posted anything. I’m not going to lie, volume 3 here was a very long journey for me to complete it. I started the process September 2016 and I finally sent this off to print the first week of August 2017. I learned a lot again with this volume, even with my long completion time. Next comic will be a mini and should hopefully go more quickly as I have more experience under my belt. I’ll be updating twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the completed pages for volume 3 here. Thanks for your patience and your support!
As posted on my comic blog, I’ve started posting volume 3 of Brews and Bruises. Scheduled posts will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thanks for looking!
Hi Crystal! Thanks very much for the Christmas card :) Hope you have a lovely holiday and all the best in 2017!
Hi Katie. Glad that the card for to you alright and you liked it! :) Thanks for being an awesome friend to our mutual friend Angi while she's been in Toronto. Hope you all have a great New Year's!
A birthday gift for @crystalrmcdowell of Ruva and Detta from her comic, Brews and Bruises! I shared this sketch several months ago, thought I’d finish it up.

Q&A
“OMG! What happened!?”
My post grad work permit is being denied, so I, legally, am not allowed to work in Canada right now. Hence: Freelancing.
“What are you going to do now?”
Freelance and a family member has offered to help me enroll in another Canadian school to try and apply for a post grad work permit… again.
Otherwise: A Big Canadian company could adopt me… but there is a ton of red tape that comes with that venture for them.
“I wish I could commission you right now, but I’m broke, too!”
That’s okay! You can still help out by spreading the word about my commissions! (and nice comments… and pastries…and tea…)
“Why commissions?”
They are the fastest way to get some funds since the money from my last job runs out VERY SOON.
“Why can’t you take on some huge freelance project?”
I can, but I need money right away, so commissions are needed to fill the gaps during the next few months.
“I saw you have a Patreon, why can’t you use those funds?”
That Patreon is reserved for the cost of production for the Devil’s Cake webcomic and it’s printing. The funds are not to be used otherwise. That is my sacred vow.
However, you are more than welcome to make donations to my Patreon or PayPal.
“How long will you be open for commissions?”
Until I secure a day job, which I will be able to do once enrolled at a school, again.
“Why do they cost 65$ USD each?”
I go by an *hourly rate. My hourly rate is calculated by my living expenses (Low: frugal), experience level (High: working since 2008), the territory I work in (Canadian Dollar vs US Dollar).
*You can find out your hourly rate with a freelance calculator app such as the “My Price” app.
“How long will my commission take to be completed?”
Commissions will be queued in order of …well, when they were ordered. After that they will be done on a steady, regular basis. I will keep you updated on the general Delivery date of your individual commission.
“What if I don’t know what my character looks like?”
I can do a rendition of your character from what information you give to me. Photo examples are also an accepted form of reference.
“Will you do fanart commissions?”
Yes! I love them!
“I saw that you also do more…erotic art, could you do one of THOSE for me?”
I’m afraid those types of works cost more for the added technicalities/details. No erotica/porn/erotic art will be offered this commission round.

A little mini comic I did about magical brewing in the world of Brews and Bruises. Going to be posting it over the next couple of weeks while I’m working on volume 3.
Putting up my mini that I did for free comic book day on my Brews and Bruises comic tumblr while I’m working on getting volume 3 rolling onto the site. Check it out! :)
