In case you guys were looking for a snailbies update, my baby ramshorns have all laid eggs in the breeding tank (there are like 30 clutches ALL over the walls) and it’s at the point where I’m going to have to start doing some major snail control... I never knew it could get this out of control and I haven’t fully decided what I’m even going to do besides freeze the entire breeding box and some of the snailbies (while feeling extremely sad) and dispose of them... it’s a sad day but this can’t continue the way it’s going or I’ll be completely overrun.

I’ve lost count of how many guppy fry we have. Some of them are definitely getting bigger. Can’t wait to see their colours develop and finally release them into the community 🥰💦

Listen. Do it for the aesthetic. If you want to fill an entire 20 dollar sketchbook with anatomy drawings fucling do it. If you wanna get lost in the woods and come stumbling home with a bag of dried mushrooms and bones you go goblin dude. You aren't alive to go to work and hurt!! You're alive because bumblebees bump into little flowers and dandelions only open up in the sun! You're alive because cats purr when you pet them and coffee keeps you up all night!! Do everything for the aesthetic!!

My OG snail Gumball laid several clutches of eggs in the last several months. I tried a few hatching methods without success and eventually I gave up (or so I thought). I have been letting clutches fall in the water in the community tank and I thought they would get eaten or not make it. But now we have 14 VISIBLE baby snails of different colours and sizes. This is incredible! I’m going to have to find another tank FAST but I had tried so hard and it’s so nice to finally be a snailgrandma.

I just want to say this: if you think keeping fish is simply having them in a bowl or vase for decoration, you can walk right out that door man.

-you need chemicals - endless chemicals (water conditioner, aquarium salt, ph stabilizer, water clarifier etc. - and calcium supplements if you have snails)

-the right equipment (bubbler pumps, heaters, filters, biomax bacteria, proper tank, proper substrate, thermometer, lighting, etc.)

-having emergency and preventative medication on hand

-proper tank cleaning tools

-proper tank maintenance weekly and monthly

-testing chemicals regularly to ensure you aren’t killing your fish

-having the knowledge of tank sizes for each fish, who can get along in the same community tank, water temperatures, temperaments, schooling or pairing, water conditions to mimic...

-then there are aquatic plants (planted tanks, which are a whole ‘nother conversation!)

It’s a lot more complex and expensive than one would originally think to take part in this hobby. So if you’re going to get into the hobby of fish keeping for yourself or with your kids PLEASE KEEP THE ABOVE IN MIND.

And sometimes even when you try your best to do absolutely everything right, mistakes will be made and loss will happen but keep trying your best and don’t stop LEARNING!!!!

So here’s the thing, my snails keep climbing onto and riding my breeding box, tipping it over and letting all the guppy fry out and I keep having to catch them all over again in a community tank. She does this daily and she gets a talking to each time...

Need a breeding tank (but I already have 4 community aquariums and no outlets left 🤣🤣)
