I work retail part time, about 5 hours a shift, 4-5 times a week. I love my job and I've met some awesome people there, but I'm on my feet most of, if not my whole shift, and my feet just HURT. I know it's not a lot of time, and there's plenty of people at my store that work much longer hours... I don't know if it's just me or my shoes, but if anyone out there has a recommendation, please share! Something really interesting happens in Guatemala during the 1st and 2nd of November. In a village called Sumpango, families gather to commemorate All Saints Day and participate in the giant kite festival. Giant kites are carefully made by hand with ever-so-thin tissue paper (think gift bag decoration), natural glue, and light-weight cane. As you can imagine, each takes months to assemble. Folk tales tell us that kites represent messengers between the living and the dead, others say that the kites chase away evil spirits. Messages are sent to deceased relatives by putting notes on the kite's strings. As the villagers start to fly the kite, and pull on it's strings, the notes move up the strings until they reach the sky. In Guatemala, All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1st. Traditionally, families commemorate relatives that have passed, and gather to share Fiambre. Made with over 50 ingredients, Fiambre is a cold salad, and recipes are as varied as the families that make them. Usually included are an assortment of cold cuts, chickpeas, peas, beets, hardboiled eggs...
