i follow a lot of progressive/leftist religious people on here and i forget sometimes that not everyone is a pluralist, anti-proselytizing weirdo like myself. genuine jumpscare when people i thought were cool start freaking out about people not following some specific dogma or whatever.
like my bad, i thought we were all just little freaks & sinners reaching towards the Divine and fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding, not a bunch of fundies enforcing dogma on others :'(
The real reason you're considered "lapsed catholic" and not an "ex catholic" is because you will always feel the slightest irritation when someone says something blatantly untrue about what catholics believe.
There was a time when I blamed my companion if his religion did not resemble mine. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Now, however, my heart accepts every form: it is a pasture ground for gazelles, a cloister for monks. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â A temple for idols and a Ka'bah for the pilgrim, thy tables of The Torah and the sacred books of The Koran. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Love alone is my religion, and wherever their beasts of burden go, there is my religion and my faith.
Idn Arabi, a 12th century mystic
If you start reading books again, youâll feel at least a little better. I promise.
Lord have mercy on me a sinner for enjoying the thought of nuking the white house and the pentagon
can you have boundaries with god
me? no. but you? no
a thousand apologies to my heart and a thousand again to my soul
Annelies Zijderveld, "Blessed is he who comes in the name"
no more divine feminine/masculine as repackaged gender roles, no more crystals to cure cancer, no more higher self instead of looking at yourself, no more starseeds, no more fear mongering around protection magic, no more calling toxicity "energy vampirism", no more applying new age terms to folk practices, no more anthropomorphizing spirits, no more
As truly as God is our Father, so truly God is our Mother.

God make me more faithful and more queer. Amen.
the âOld Testament Godâ construction pisses me off because like. thatâs my wife. thatâs my girl. Sheâs swift in dealing out justice for the innocent and firm in upholding Her laws, She comforts the slave and the exile and the outcast and brings mighty kingdoms to their knees. She challenges great and ancient pantheons to stand before Her and call themselves worthy of being the gods of their chosen lands and she reveals their inability to keep their promises, by fire and flood and plague. She brings life and death at once. If youâre not in love with that part of Her all I can say is âskill issueâ.
The first person to give a name to God was a slave, who called Them, âThe One Who Sees Meâ
Continuing to be warm and soft and open to the possibilities of life even when it seems hopeless and youâre heartbroken and soul sick does actually work btw. Like there will be love around you again and real recognizes real
did you guys know that there are religions out there where actual, literal belief isnât all that important? iâve only ever been around christianity where belief is like, the number one most important thing ever, so i never even considered that there are cultures out there where the question of âis this all realâ never comes up because it doesnât matter
and you can also belong to multiple religions that seem to contradict one another, and you donât have to come up with some extra lore to tie them together. you can just be both.
Buddhism does this fairly well. Like you will hear stories about The Buddha or a prominent monk or something doing XYZ and its really not important if the thing actually happened in real life. Its more about the lesson that can be taken from it or its there to emphasize a point.
Like did Bodhidharma, if he actually existed, cut his eyelids off because he was big mad about falling asleep during meditation? Probably not but it shows his devotion as the founder of Zen, a sect of Buddhism that emphasis meditation.
Or like did Siddhartha Gautama actually sit under the bodhi tree for 49 days straight without rest while being besieged by Mara the demonic lord of death and temptation before reaching enlightenment and becoming The Buddha? I mean he probably meditated a long time and was tempted to quit but whether or not all the mystical stuff happened isn't important. It's to show that the path towards enlightenment and/or just bettering yourself is hard and that temptations to quite will find you on that path.
âDo not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
Do not believe in anything because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.â
-the Kalama Sutra
One of my favorite things about Buddhism <3
