Thank you so much for having nuance 😭 "just because it's good doesn't mean I liked it" should be opinions people are allowed to have (in general not necessarily just the show) and I'll definitely have to pocket the phrase for later next time I'm trying to describe that "it's good don't get me wrong " feeling
I'm happy you said that! I read too many weird comics growing up, so I'm pretty used to pushing through uncomfortable themes or downright trashy writing for the sake of even one aspect of a story I like, lol. And on the flip-side, almost every time I've watched something universally loved, I either think it's enjoyable but not my thing, or so good and appropriately rated I have nothing to add. I'm also simple and get depressed over negative character arcs, ha.
I really love when people can meet a story where its at, and I think everyone should learn the difference between their own interpretation, writer's intentions (which aren't always known or well conveyed), writing quality/execution, and personal thoughts/feelings on the subject matter. It's my favorite way to engage and a great way to learn something. I actually didn't think I'd post my thoughts on Rick and Morty at all, I just had to do some thinking outloud after seeing too much braindead Twitter fetishization back-to-back with TikTok's vitriol for anything complicated, lol.
