I've been struggling with thoughts of alienation lately 

specifically, the feeling that i have to shut off parts of myself to show off other parts of myself

like, the people who would want to hear me talk about green day don’t want to hear me talk about the aquabats (trust me, if i were braver i would write the fic where 2000 Light Years Away was written about the Martian Girl from Planet V) don’t want to hear me talk about pokemon don’t want to hear me talk about the yakuza games don’t want to hear me talk about mae don’t want to hear me talk about pos tech don’t want to hear me talk about neurodivergence and so on and so forth

and i know-even if just superficially-that it’s probably just because those other people don’t have the same experiences that i do and just aren’t interested in the same shit that i am and it’s not really fair to them for me to expect them to match my energy because i know if anyone in those circles started talking about aerosmith or the trails series or whatever my eyes would glaze over and inwardly i would pray for the time when i could be excused to go watch paint dry instead

but my feelings about those things don’t exist in a vacuum or even remotely insulated from one another. they influence my feelings not just about those things but about the world around me (feel free to refer back to the 2000LYA/MG example in the parentheses above) and to try and shut those other parts of myself out to experience camaraderie with people who only show interest in the one thing just makes me not want to talk to anyone about anything ever
