listen. i know we’ve been through this already. i don’t honestly know what the point of this post is. but i’m scared. i’m really, really scared. because not only have the leave voters robbed our future, but they’ve played right into the hands of the fascists waiting to take control of our country. nigel farage has just claimed that his “victory” was won “without a single shot being fired” not even a week after jo cox was killed because she was pro-EU. i’m honestly fucking terrified for my future and the future of others in this country who wanted to remain. everything’s gone to complete shit and there’s nothing we can do about it. most people who voted leave don’t even realize what they voted for. all that was on their minds was the word “immigration”.
i woke up this morning to news of people yelling in the street at others to “go back home”. an old lady on a bus told a young polish woman and her baby to “get packing”. i’m literally sitting here nearly in tears writing this because i’m so scared and disgusted that this is happening. but there are people who care. i care. but there’s absolutely fuck all that us 48% can do. there’s that petition for a 2nd referendum which asked for 100,000 signatures and it now has 1,154,545 - and broke the site twice. i just want you to know that we care and we aren’t racists. we are devastated with this result. these disgusting idiots who are celebrating don’t speak for us.
we are going to lose laws europe put in place to protect women’s rights, lgbt rights, worker’s rights, public service funding, university funding, trade agreements, and a whole lot fucking more because of some misplaced imperialistic nostalgia. 75% of people under the age of 25 voted remain. the older generation has completely fucked us over - a generation given everything (free education, golden pensions, social mobility) has voted to take these things away from our generation.
we are so afraid. we tried everything we could to stop this. there are people only waking up now and realising what exactly they’ve voted for. there are others celebrating and yelling at people in the street to “go back home”. but us 48% care. our hearts are breaking that our country could fall so fast, our future stolen from us by people who would rather give in to fear and hatred than listen to the voices of the generation who never wanted this.
