but as stated earlier, i will take any excuse to ramble about sparrots dynamic so everything under this point is Pure Unfiltered Rambles from me (adding onto my points, and giving context for my characterizations) because i can talk for HOURSSSS on their loveless (yet strangely reciprocated) relationship...

🦜, in every universe, loves (or Tolerates) spoke to a lotta different degrees... her love for 🌈 tends to lean into the more genuine side where she does care a Lot about 🌈, but still has a lot of flaws to work on herself so... it does get rocky.
🌈, on the other hand, tends to Always view 🦜 as something akin to an object or toy... ofc she's always fond of her, but she's more fixated on not being bored, and having something to take apart any way she wishes. she's apathetic and cruel and her form of love is so so so off-putting and horrid... i went into that topic yesterday actually LOL
a bit highlight of all of this is 🌈 and her love (towards others) is inherently rooted in objectification, possession, control, etc. i think my view of her With those kinds of traits is something super prominent in my sparrot characterizations... #That insanity (from 🌈's end) totally extends towards her "love" for 🦜!! cue another ramble from a while ago as well... (this one is one of my fave threads #Whoops)

haha can you Tell i'm crazily fixated on sparrot #IMSORRY... still, the love 🌈 has for 🦜 is tied to manipulation and entertainment, more for her own sake than 🦜's own safety... but she still loves her— she loves her humanity, loves how she always gets back up, love how she always keeps pushing despite all of 🌈's prodding.
their dynamic is super uncomfortable and one-sided for them both. they don't Really love each other, but they keep orbiting around one another time and time and time again... it's almost like an addiction neither can break out of. 🌈 is so attached to 🦜 despite her viewing him as lesser, and 🦜 is so tied down to 🌈 despite everything in his body always telling him to run.
still, to them... i think it's the closest thing they'll ever get to love. even if it's rotten. even if it's hard to swallow. even if neither of them Really feel the same and both of them can't comprehend any normalcy given how fucked-up they treat "love" itself but ehhh whatever they're both having....... Fun. kinda. it's debatable at best and dubious at worst.
it's a reciprocated "i like you and i'd like to hover around you, staying in your life to make sure your mine, and nobody else has anything more special than this with you (or, in 🦜's case, Fix You—)" but totally one-sided "i love you and i'd like to get better for you!" because neither of them Really care deep down.
🦜 will always view 🌈 as someone undeserving of (normal) love post-🪱hole (ls) and post-mcs secret (uu) due to her sense of morals and bitter justice, and 🌈 will never apologize to 🦜 for how their relationship (always) ends because she does not really have the capacity to Care. they like each other when they can tolerate the other, but more often than not... it's so loveless!
and if it's not loveless, than it's 🦜 having that love (towards 🌈 or Everybody else, generally) ... even if it's also pretty strange. not as crazy as 🌈's though Jesus Christ she's a nuclear bomb of toxicity and attachment all roped into one mentally unwell individual and i love him for that so so so much...
THIS NEXT PART IS SO SELF-INDULGENT TO MY WRITING / DRAWINGS But i think it's very important when it comes to my sparrot characterizations... aka my beloved yet currently-super-neglected sparrot au.
red!sparrot really highlights the way i view sparrot in the worst way possible and it's Very very very apparent to see how it's prevalent in most (if not all) of my current sparrots... it's basically just an alternative modern-day universe where they're not exactly in a relationship, but they're as broken and awful as one.
they're entirely loveless. they don't even Like Each Other all that much. they're the epitome of unreciprocated past feelings all becoming trashed by the realization that they'll never be soft together— their love is born though teeth and blood, through violence and sadism, through their decaying friendship.
stated before this is SO self-indulgent but very very very pivotal with some of my recent sparrots redraws (especially the more darker mentally ill ones,) but this is my favorite wip for the red au Ever and i truly hope everybody knows that the way i write sparrot here is just. the way i view their relationship tenfold.
their softness is not reciprocated, but their ugliness and wretched feelings are totally the same!
their hearts become one entity beneath... whatever play they're doing together. it's some fucked-up play-pretend-house scenario where they want to be reciprocal and try reallyyyy hard to be normal but whoops! they're both wayyyyy too past the point of no return.
haha these are all super messy and written ages ago, so apologies for the amount of obvious mistakes... but i think the question of "do you love me?" really hangs low on whatever they have. it's uncomfortable and hypocritical, 🌈 can't get upset because she already knows the answer, and 🦜 is always stuck between fighting or giving in.
does 🦜 reciprocate those play-pretend feelings today, to give into all of 🌈's demands, or does she fight back? does she rebel, does she thrash, does she embrace the humanity that 🌈 has come to love fully...?
in moments like these, in my beautiful beloved Red au, i think you can clearly see... what i'm trying to get at with sparrot. or atleast i hope so LOL
they're morbid and grotesque but it's love to the both of them. it's just laced in valid hatred and unreasonable teasing and everything in-between. both of them have long moved-on from each other, but they need the other. it's totally loveless though! it's not one-sided because by now, there's no sides for anybody to feel anything on... (even if 🦜 deep down wants to feel softness again, and 🌈 wants to be pampered and be special to 🦜 once more... they'd both die before admitting that in any healthy way though.)
i don't think i've posted some of these doodles publicly but they're very red au-inspired, alongside some other posts (ie happydays 🌈, knock it off 🦜🌈, that one manga panel redraw, etc...) i just think their love is so broken. so loveless. so cruel. but i think they both want it, deep down, to be "real."
it's uncomfortable and strange and so awful, it's practically driving them both mad because they can't help but hate one another for reasons that switch between rational and irrationality. so i guess another tldr for the "are your sparrots one-sided?" question could, too, be that it's definitely reciprocated and Felt on both ends but eh it's way too loveless on the outside!!! even if deep deep deep down both of them want something wholesome...
also Yes some of my words actually contradict the way i draw 🌈 very pathetic and soggy sometimes and that is because i do think that outside all of the uncaring, cruel, rotten parts of her personality, she still wants unconditional love. she wants to be liked despite her attitude, but it's impossible for her to feel that in any genuine way because it's so muddled with manipulative words and chaotic actions...

still, i think their love is one-sided but not in ways that are simple to describe. they love each other, but it's really easy for both of them to fall into the habit of... hurting one another. subconsciously or not. i think they'd both like to be soft, but 🦜 is very strict with his morals sometimes and 🌈 just loves pushing too much on his buttons for them to make any healthy progress.
Also they refuse to communicate or go to couples therapy 100% haha even though they #Definitely need it.....!!!!!!!
on a sweeter note, i do think there's some kind of cute softness between the two! if there's no kinds of inner turmoil or problems between in their relationship, they're very cute and supportive and awwww i can't stop thinking about how much they hype each other up and god they're so playful and silly together Just Ignore The Horrors They'll Always Inevitably Face.
