there's something about the manual labour involved in flipping a record that makes you appreciate where each side starts and ends

finishing the A side of the first record on I, Carrion (Icarian) and then moving your devastated and heavy body to flip it to Eat Your Young which is just as devastating but in an upbeat, global way instead of personal

and then the introspection from Who We Are to Son of Nyx??? You just sit there thinking about the rebirth and all that has come before

and the joy of changing from B side of the first record from Butchered Tongue to Anything But where you are free

new experiences every time you get up to flip, the thought you HAVE to give to the last song on the side on the vinyl when you flip it, UGHHhH

i know First Light is the most literal song on the album about the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel, the first light of dawn after the long and awful night- but Damage Gets Done feels so much to me like being young and leaving home for the first time and having the whole world in front of you, the early mornings of summer where the quiet sunlight is soft and warm and wonderful, and taking your first steps towards something good and bright and beautiful
