CURTographies: Curt jon in Print - Quietly Loud

This weekend, Snax Magazine had a party celebrating the release of their most recent issue. The magazine focuses on new and upcoming artists. I am greatly honored to be part of this most recent issue. The below pictures are of the magazine and my two pieces - currently on display at Gallery Bar (located in New York City's Lower East Side):

The topic for this issue is Noise. All artists had to present or create a piece that surrounds this topic. My two pieces are conjointly titled 'Quietly Loud' on page 59 of the issue.

CURTographies: Curt jon featured in SNAX Magazine

Very excited to have two of my pieces featured in the art magazine, SNAX. Issues of the magazine come out twice a year and is topic oriented. This issue's topic is 'noise' (issue will be released the end of July). The below pieces are some of my interpretations of this word. CURTographies: First Music Video Project - Animated

I am very excited to be part in creating a music video - first music video project I've been part of. The video is going to be animated, with the image above the backdrop for the video. The below images are basic elements for the video: 

Below is our main character in the video. I designed him to look a bit like Danny from the Stanley Kubrick film, The Shining:

CURTographies: Commissioned Piece - Ink, Acrylic & Photography

This week's focus is a recent project I was commissioned to do. Based off of a photograph of a beach scene, I recreated it Curt jon style. Beginning with the below sketch and then ink:

Followed by inking the individual and adding the first bit of color:

The next step was recreating the entire image on a separate canvas using acrylic paint. Then I selected parts of the painted piece to overlap the inked/sketch version. Then i finished coloring it. Below is the final piece:

CURTographies: Draw, Rock & Roll Part II - Album Cover Art

I had the great honor to design the cover for the most recent album 'Come On' by the talented Brooklyn band, Scaresthedaylights. I just wanted to share the progression of my work on this project.

CURTographies: On Display at La Silhouette - Midtown, New York City

My work can currently be seen at the midtown restaurant, La Silhouette. It is quite an honor to have my work on display at this wonderful fine dining restaurant. Below are the Curt jons on display. A huge thank you to photographer Lia Kopecky for taking these great pictures.

CURTographies: Several Curt jon's soon to be on display in Midtown Manhattan

Currently in the process of installing several of my pieces in a restaurant in Midtown New York City. By mid February everything should be nailed to walls for interested individuals to see. Details of the location will be posted once everything is in place.

CURTographies: 007 - Tribute to the James Bond Film Series

To kick off Curtographies for 2013, I decided to go with a James Bond tribute. The most recent Bond film is still in theaters and is a hit. Plus, as a teenager, I was quite the fan of the early films - I'm a bit partial to Sean Connery and Roger Moore.

CURTographies: Montreal - La Belle Ville

Week before last I traveled up to Montreal with a friend. Never having been to Montreal before, I must say the city left an amazing impression on me. Therefore, this week's blog entry is a small dedication to my few days in this beautiful city and the new friends I made.

Public transportation is great in Montreal (bus, taxi, metro system etc.). However, our choice of method to get from point 'A' to 'B', was the public bicycle Bixi system. Rumored that New York City is supposed to be implementing this new public system - however, we're still waiting. 

This city also has some amazing architecture, from it's centuries old cathedrals to it's progressive commerce buildings. We had the wonderful opportunity to spend an afternoon with a friend who gave us the grande tour of Montreal's landmark buildings. Below is the Habitat 67 building. 

And of course, a trip to Montreal is not complete without trying it's signature dish: Poutine. As my buddy states it best, it is a dish your not quite certain about as your eating it - but then later you crave it (and I do). 

I'm already looking forward to my next visit to this marvelous city. Thank you to everyone that made this a truly fun trip.

CURTographies: 3-2-1 CONTACT - 1980's Childhood Flashback

The past couple of weeks have been great with receiving requests and suggestions for CURTographies topics. This week's 1980's topic came by request, but I put my own special spin on it to pay honor to my childhood. I hope many of you out there will be able to sympathize. 

As a kid, I was devoted to The Uncanny X-MEN comic book series - kind of wanted to be a bit of mutant myself. Though, still gotta say, Storm was the coolest when she was sporting the mohawk.

Time for 1980's quiz #1. Name the three different video game systems pictured below:

By the age of 10, I had a massive collection of Star Wars and Masters of the Universe action figures.

Who could forget mixed tapes and 80's sitcoms. Time for 1980's quiz #2: What sitcom had the character by the name of Blair Warner?

Rushing home right after school to catch the issue-sensitive television show for young adults: ABC Afterschool Specials. FYI, each of the images below comes from an actual episode. 

PBS and the Children's Television Network was a huge part of my childhood, with shows like The Electric Company, Square One TV, and, of course, 3-2-1 CONTACT. It was actually this show that introduced to me the concept of gravity. 1980's quiz #3: who are the characters next to the 3-2-1 CONTACT logo?

  Yes, there is much much more that could be placed in this blog (i.e. Mtv, etc.). That will have to be done another time. Next week, by request, Pictures within Pictures. Hope you all enjoyed this week's blog.
