Oh no, no, no. Steps quicken, as if outpacing him will rid her of the company; Zoey looks around and knows he has her cornered. There are too many people around, and if this guy is here, his demon buddies are probably around and up to something. Well, maybe she can't outrun him, but if she just makes an excuse to the public and leaves —

Dawning horror is reflected on her face as he pulls up the phone. "No! I mean — hi!" Smile plastered in place, she fights the urge to strangle him. Picking out flowers for charity?? Elbow meets his ribs, sharp enough to bother, though not strong enough to hurt. Whatever she can get away with as a friendly jab. "What a coincidence that you would also be here! Picking flowers for charity! The Saja Boys really are so" Evil. Demonic. Infuriating. She holds the smile in place and tries to keep irony from her voice. "nice."

"I was..." Getting away while the girls are fighting just doesn't sound good. "...on my way. To the Sea Life Aquarium. Did you know they're raising funds to save turtles? I planned to volunteer."

And it wasn't even a lie. Well. She didn't mean to do it now but — not the point. Time to counterattack; would he even know what to say beyond generic platitudes? "I have some time, though. Does the babiest maknae need help with his task? Oh — which charity are the flowers for, anyway?"

the only time she hesitates is when the girls find out about rumi, because it's rumi; it's not just some demon, it's someone she knows and loves. after huntr/x gets back together i think there might be more that things are compartmentalized than that there's more acceptance on her part. rumi is part human too, and zoey loves her. she knows rumi is not a monster. now to extrapolate that for a wider sense of 'not every demon' might take a demon demon convincing her to see them that way

#character study { 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐖𝐎 𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐒. }#jinu's sacrifice might make an impact there though #probably would because. it's a big thing #it would affect her perspective but even then #when you're trained to kill demons #it's hard to come around to see them as people #and it's easy to make explanations for rumi being different #instead of accepting their understanding of the situation wasn't exactly correct

i know it's meant to be hehe funny but I just think! zoey's 'you're just my type 🤩' *proceeds to kill him without thinking twice* really shows she's not as soft as she seems. she is so caring and kind, she loves the girls and she loves the fans, the bubbliness is not an act. but as a hunter she's ruthless. she doesn't second guess what she's doing, she goes for the throat. a good demon is a dead demon, as far as she's concerned.

i just think while, of course, rumi had to deal with the additional pressure because of her patterns and celine raising her since she was a child to conceal don't feel, all the girls would likely have Issues relative to the mindset instilled in them

from 'your faults and fears must never be seen' (!!!) to the need to perform and keep fans happy because the fate of the world depends on the happiness of their fans. no pressure. and then how much that becomes part of one's identity — if you're always living to make the fans happy, who are you beyond what makes the fans happy?

i do think zoey has a safe space with the girls, and in turn is there for them similarly, and they can see each others' flaws and love each other all the same, but even then — zoey and mira reinforce the idea rumi's voice problems have to be kept quiet because no one can know anything is wrong with them ever. it makes sense to me that zoey would struggle a little with not tying her worth and identity to who she is as a music artist and a hunter.
