ouuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!
Looking back on it, I might have been wrong about...
...Eren being driven by pure greed or a toxic desire for a "blank slate" world. When I first analyzed the difference between Arminâs curiosity and Erenâs rage, I thought it was about him wanting to possess that untouched wilderness. But looking closer, it isnât about wanting stuff at all. Itâs about a desperate, existential need to be "something"âto have a purpose and to constantly satisfy his own unyielding nature.
The truth is, even if Eren got that idealized, empty world, he still wouldn't have been happy or satisfied. There would be nothing left to push against, meaning all that violence and drive would inevitably turn inwards.
The Mantra as an Identity
Look at his literal life motto: "Fight, fight, fight." When Hange calls him out in front of the mirror, asking, "If you say 'fight, fight'... does that mean there are two fights?" they are pointing out the core flaw in his psyche. It isnât just a call to overcome oppression. For Eren, fighting is a literal requirement to exist.
He wants the conflict.
He needs the fight.
Without it, he doesn't know how to be a person. His greatest fear isn't actually losing his friends or failing Paradis; it's the terrifying prospect of being "nobody." To Eren, a life of quiet peace is indistinguishable from being cattle trapped inside the walls. I mean look at his absolute distaste for people who were content living peacefully, he framed them as "cattle" purely for just wanting a normal peaceful life.
But get this:
Eren didnât just want to fight for the sake of fighting; he wanted the fight to lead to the specific reward he and Armin had dreamed of. In their childhood fantasy, the outside world was an untouched, beautiful, and completely open paradise. It represented absolute, unrestricted freedom.
âWhen the enemy was the Titans, the world was simple:
âTitans = Brainless monsters (Evil).
âHumans inside the walls = Victims (Good).
âEren could view himself as a righteous savior fighting against monsters to achieve a pure goal. But finding out that the "monsters" across the ocean were just regular humansâinnocent children, families, and ordinary peopleâshattered that identity.
âIf he wanted to keep fighting, he could no longer pretend he was a righteous hero. To fight humanity, he had to become a monster himself. That is why he was so deeply disappointed: the reality of the world forced him to face the dark reality of his own nature. He realized that the only way to get the "blank slate" freedom he obsessed over was to commit an unforgivable atrocity.
In the early seasons, Eren is a screaming, raging tempest. He is constantly shouting, and noted by Levi for being an "absolute monster" of pure will, and completely unignorable.
âThe Traditional View: Heâs just a passionate, angry kid who wants to avenge his mother.
âMy Lens: The loudness is a defense mechanism against the void. If he is quiet, he is invisible. If he is invisible, he is just another piece of cattle waiting to be slaughtered inside the walls. By being a "loud crackling fire," he forces the universe to acknowledge him. His charisma isn't polished; it's a raw, magnetic pull of a person who is so entirely consumed by his own need to matter that others can't help but be drawn into his orbit
âOnce he unlocked the memories of the Founding Titan and realized the sheer, world-altering power he held, that existential panic of being "nobody" vanished. He didn't need to scream to be noticed because he knew he was about to become the center of gravity for the entire human race.
He chose to burst out from beneath a stage where Willy Tybur was literally putting on a play about him and Paradis. Willy was trying to define Eren to the world as the ultimate threat. By exploding through the building at that exact moment, Eren essentially said, "Let me define myself."
The ocean:
Usually, people see Eren pointing across the sea as a moment of grim realismâhe's the only one focusing on the political reality while his friends enjoy the water. But in my opinion, it was a moment of sheer existential panic:
â"If we kill all our enemies over there... will we finally be free?"
âIf freedom to Eren means the absolute absence of walls and enemies, then killing everyone should result in total freedom. But as I pointed out, the subtext he is wrestling with is much darker: "If I kill everyone, and there is no one left to oppose me, who am I?" He isn't just asking if they will be free; he's realizing that achieving his goal means the death of his identity. If the enemy disappears, the fire goes out.
This is a moment of profound internal horror. He is looking at the oceanâthe ultimate symbol of the "blank slate" he thought he wantedâand realizing it means nothing to him. The beauty of nature does not feed his soul because it provides no friction.
â"Because I Was Born Into This World"
âThis brings it all back to his ultimate philosophical justification. When Eren and Carla say "Because he was born into this world," it's usually treated as a beautiful statement about the inherent value of human life.
âBut for Eren, it gets twisted into a radical, aggressive entitlement to space and impact.
âIt's not just "I have the right to live quietly."
âIt's "I am here, my existence is undeniable, and I have the right to push against anything that tries to contain me."
How it connects to School castes:
In that peaceful, modern setting, Eren has a normal life, a loving family, and great friendsâand he is miserable. Eren sits in class completely numb, wishing for a zombie apocalypse or some massive, catastrophic global conflict just to break the monotony. He is desperate for a crisis to give his life meaning. When he realizes a supernatural threat isn't coming, he genuinely cries out of pure disappointment.
When Eren gets tangled up with actual, dangerous cultists/criminals, he gets kidnapped. Suddenly, the "cool, edgy conflict" he fantasized about becomes a reality. He is trapped, he is helpless, and he is genuinely terrified. He realizes that real violence isn't a glorious stage for his ego; itâs horrific, painful, and ugly. He desperately wants to go back to his ordinary life in that moment.
Now connect this to the rumbling and canon:
The Fantasy: Eren initiated the Rumbling because his inner nature demanded the ultimate, world-shattering conflict to define his existence. He wanted to be the storm.
âThe Reality: Once he actually started doing itâonce he was crushing innocent children like Ramzi, hearing the screams, and watching the world burnâthe reality of the horror caught up to his human psyche. Just like in School Castes, the actual weight of the atrocity was too much for him to bear.
The Cabin Dream: A Gift and a Warning
âThe vision Eren gives Mikasa in Chapter 138 (the cabin sequence) is great proof of this(for me). He shows her what would have happened if they ran away together:
âThey live in a secluded cabin.
âEren is quiet, wasting away, and waiting to die from the Titan curse.
âThe world outside is still falling apart, but they have abandoned the fight.
âOn the surface, it looks like a tragic romance, but underneath, it's Eren showing her why they could never work. He is proving to her that if he chose her version of peace, he would have to completely kill who he is. He would become a hollow shell of a man, rotting away in isolation because he isn't fighting. By telling her in that dream to "throw the scarf away" and "forget about me," he is begging her to let go of an idealised version of him that fundamentally cannot exist.
He didn't just push her away to protect her from himself and the conflicts; he pushed her away because her love demanded a version of Eren that his nature refused to be. Every time Mikasa tried to wrap the scarf around him or pull him back from a fight, she was trying to pull him toward safety, domesticity, and peace.
He couldn't confess to her or give into that relationship because doing so meant accepting a peaceful, quiet existence. His nature demanded that he be the monster, the fire, and the storm that tears the world apart. He knew he could never be the peaceful partner she deserved, so he chose to become the ultimate enemy she would be forced to killâallowing her to finally break free from her obsession with him and survive in the world he left behind.
The Ultimate Theater of Conflict
This completely reframes the Rumbling and why he stopped at 80%(imo). If his goal was strictly to protect Paradis, a 100% flattening was the logical choice. If he just wanted his friends to survive, he could have used the Founder's power to alter their memories or keep them from fighting.
Instead, he practically begged the Alliance to oppose him. He didn't just want to save his friends; he wanted to be remembered by everyone. By positioning himself as the ultimate "Devil of all Earth" and forcing his closest friends into a world-shaving showdown, he guaranteed his legacy.
He chose to become the ultimate axis around which human history would forever turn, preferring to be a monster etched into the scars of the earth rather than risk living and dying as a nobody. Even in death, Eren forced the universe to acknowledge that he was here.
(BTW, this is just my personal speculation of his character, im sure many would disagree but to each their own I guess)
Dreading the day Iâm gonna have to cheat on Jean Kirstein and marry a real existing man

Are you really best friends if you donât have matching fuck ass bobs????
you're leviâs greatest weakness cw: angst â¸â¸ fluff
levi would never admit it. he wasnât even sure that he had fully accepted it himself. it didnât go unnoticed the way he always lingered behind to make sure you were okay when you were injured, insisting on helping you walk. the way heâd silently pass you your water when you were seconds away from passing out during training. the way heâd get pissed off if youâd overworked yourself as if you had personally offended himâŚthe list goes on. after a while, hange and erwin decided to tease confront him about it over lunch.
âah, levi in love.â hange grinned at him, tilting her head.
âi never thought iâd see the day,â erwin chimed in.
levi clenched his jaw slightly and glared at the two of them.
âwhat are the two of you on about now?â
they exchanged a knowing look, which pissed off levi even more.
âweâve been noticing something over the course of several months. you could say weâve witnessed love blossom within the scout regiment.â hange wiggled her eyebrows at him.
âtch.â leviâs glower didnât falter.
âyou know,â erwin tapped his face with a napkin, âyou could, i donât know⌠tell her how you feel? you know more than anyone that in this line of work, you never know when your day will come.â he tossed the napkin on the table and shrugged. âbut what do i know, hmm?â
hange giggled uncontrollably and the two men stared at her.
âhange, iâd expect.â hange frowned at this, but nodded in agreement. âbut you too erwin? donât be ridiculous. iâd expect more from you.â levi shook his head in disapproval.
erwin watched him carefully before smirking at him.
âbetter finish up your lunch or youâll be late to her infirmary visit.â he gestured to the bowl of soup in front of him.
hange snicked before clasping her hand over her mouth. she shot levi an apologetic look before snorting once more.
levi huffed, pretending to not care, to not pay their aimless accusations any mind. but deep down, he knew there was some truth to what they were saying. so he quickly finished his lunch and excused himself from the table.
he got to the clinic in record time, with five minutes left to spare. he sat in the little waiting area, tapping his foot anxiously.
where were you? he wondered to himself. heâd always admired how punctual you were. it was very unlike you to not be early to an appointment, especially one as important as this one. donât ask how levi knew but this appointment was a dealbreaker for whether you would be cleared to return to some of your duties. he knew how anxious youâd been about it, the worry had been plaguing your mind all week. you wouldnât miss this for the world.
he heard footsteps approaching and he looked up to see you stumbling into the room. he shot up from his seat and grabbed your arm, guiding you to the nearest chair.
slumping down in the chair, you murmured a small thank you before fluttering your eyes shut.
forgive leviâs bluntness, but you looked like hell. your tired eyes had barely given him a once over. your hair was unbrushed and wild, and your eye bags were prominent. this disheveled state of yours was a stark contrast from the way you usually presented yourself: eyes bright and full of life, hair and clothing neat, along with all the strength and will in the world.
but what did levi know?
you squeezed his arm lightly before nuzzling your head in the crook of his neck. leviâs whole body tensed up, startled at the sudden movement. he wasnât used to affection, let alone physical affection, so this alone set him off balance. he shifted uncomfortably under you for a little, before finally accepting it.
you were severely injured and tired. levi had been with you every step of the healing process so he knew the heavy burden youâd been carrying. what kind of person would be to not help you out in your great time of need?
he inched closer and held his breath while you shifted in your sleep. it took everything in him to not snuggle in closer to you and take a nap with you right there and then.
because despite himself, he was still in denial. certain that he wasn't deserving of love of any sort, especially on the receiving end.
so he sat there, shoulder numb, glad that you were knocked out cold. if you werenât, he wasnât exactly sure if he could unscramble his thoughts and confront what hange and erwin had said head on⌠and he wasnât sure if he wanted to.
because part of him knew they were right. you were his weakness. he just wasnât ready to fully accept it yet. it would make these fleeting moments of bliss turn into something more real, more scary. heâd already lost so many people in his life alreadyâhis mother, kenny, his first squadâjust to name a few. he viewed these as small bumps on the road. these things would temporarily paralyze him, before heâd hit the ground running again.
but you.
he snuck a glance at your peaceful state, snoozing away on his shoulder without a care in the world. his heart panged at the thought of anything happening to you. to him, it wouldnât be something minor, it would be a dead end. without even realizing it, you had become the center of his whole universe. being in your orbit is the only place levi felt grounded and secure. you always pulled him back right where he was meant to be.
when everyone knows you're Levi's â everyone except you...
Kenny has known since you were both kids. Just two brats he'd taken under his wing in the Underground (why he'd done that, he still doesn't even know himself). Kenny knew you were Levi's when he saw the way the runt would always stay close, moving when you moved as if some invisible string were tying you together. Levi would always make sure you ate first, that you were always warm, always safe. It was also during that time when Kenny realised that, even with his own shit influence, the runt would turn out alright.
Isabel and Furlan have known since before Levi knew himself. They noticed the way that, in a room full of people, Levi's eyes would always seek you first. When you spoke, he'd listen with an intensity so unlike the usual disinterest he showed towards most other people. When you were separated for some reason â maybe, you were with another team during a heist, or just out for an errand â Levi's shoulders were tense, he was snappy, on edge, and overall unpleasant to be around. But it only lasted until he saw you again, safe.
Mike has known from the moment he saw Levi's eyes widen with pure terror when you'd been held at knife-point. It was that day when the Scouts had finally caught Levi's infamous gang in the Underground. It was almost comical how fast Levi dropped his dagger and let himself get dragged to his knees, then shoved right into a puddle of sewer filth. Especially now, when Mike knows how much that guy hates filth, he marvels at how Levi didn't even seem to notice it â no, his attention was solely focused on you, and first when the immediate threat to your life had been removed had he looked at Erwin.
Erwin and Hange learned that you were Levi's shortly after you both joined the Scouts. You were always seen together â during training, meals, and every other time of the day. They noticed that, unlike with others, Levi was always patient with you. He'd spar with you, even though he was much better at it than you were (you were still remarkably good, it was just that no one was as good as Levi), and he'd show you a move again and again and again just so you could learn it, never raising his voice at you and always answering your questions. And he didn't express even the tiniest hint of annoyance during those moments â only a softness in his eyes they would've described as adoration, if that word wasn't so strange when associated with Levi.
The Levi Squad also quickly learned that you were his. At first, they'd thought that the rumours about Levi being an aloof asshole were wrong. How could he be, with the way he acted around you â talking more than they'd ever heard him talk before, smiling like it was natural to him, letting you hold his hand, hug him, and kiss his cheek as if the two of you were a happily married couple. However, it didn't take long for them to realise that he was every bit as grumpy as rumours had claimed him to be â not quite an asshole, but still blunt and private. That is, to everyone but you.
The revelation had spurred Petra to casually ask how long you and Levi had been together. To their surprise, Levi had fallen very silent, while you spluttered and waved your hands frantically in front of yourself. "No no, I promise it's not like that! We've just known each other since we were kids!"
Petra was sceptical, Oluo confused, and Eld and Gunther exchanged looks. Later, they asked Hange about it, but they'd just pinched the bridge of their nose, mumbling something along the lines of, "If that idiot doesn't tell them soon, I'm going to ask them out myself. That should get him going."
But after that day, you notice that Levi suddenly starts acting strange around you for some reason. He'll get very still every time you hug him or get too close, something he's never done before. When you ask him about it, he doesn't say anything at first, so you ask if you did something wrong.
That seems to catch his attention, and he immediately pulls you close. "Don't be an idiot. It's not you, it's me."
You laugh a little at that. "You know, it sounds like you're breaking up with me when you put it like that." You say it as a joke of course, but it seems like Levi is taking your statement very serious.
"To break up, you have to be together first, you know."
"Right. But you never really saw me like that," you muse, looking away and trying to sound like you don't care when, really, your heart hurts just thinking about it
Again, Levi doesn't say anything, so you look at him again â only to find him staring at you as if you've suddenly grown an extra head.
"Huh? Was it something I said?"
He groans loudly. "You really are an idiot." Then, he flicks your forehead. "I always liked you, dumbass. It used to drive me mad â no, scratch that, it does drive me mad. You drive me mad, but in the best fucking way."
Your eyes light up. "Really?"
"Don't make me say it again."
"Does that mean I can kiss you?"
Levi blinks in surprise, his lips parting. Then, he quickly snaps his mouth shut, only for it to spread into a smirk a split second later. "I'd be pretty fucking stupid to say no to that, wouldn't I?"
You agree wholeheartedly, right before leaning in to kiss Levi. Right on the mouth.
