every 14-16 year old is the bravest person on the planet to me
talking to a 15 year old like wow okay you are like if scrambled eggs was a person. I don't know how to save you. the way you move through the world is reminiscent of a stray cat whose soul got punted into a human body. said human body is currently undergoing changes and floods of hormones that would result in cities being levelled if you were perhaps a big dragon and not a medium sized primate. been there. good luck I love you
you don't have to excuse the behaviours of shitty teenagers, but you DO have to remember that they've been on this earth only as long as your cat. you have to ensure that the way you respond to said behaviour reflects this. yes they're an entire person. they're also going through a period of the most insane rapid transformation (physically, mentally, emotionally and socially) a person can experience in life. are they an irredeemable monster or are they just a very impressionable young person floundering through their first Strong Opinions based on what they've seen online, with ridiculous amounts of Hormone That Makes You Hate Everything in their bloodstream?
YOUNG TEENAGERS. are YOU an irredeemable monster or are YOU just a very impressionable young person floundering through your first Strong Opinions based on what you've seen online, with ridiculous amounts of Hormone That Makes You Hate Everything in your bloodstream? I'll give you a hint. it's the second option. cut yourself some slack too! try your very best to be kind, try your very best to consider people with differing experiences to you, and maybe take a step back from discourse that does nothing besides make you upset. you've only been an animal alive on this planet for a decade and a bit. there are artisanal cheddars at your local supermarket older than you. take it easy. eat more fruit. save up for a second hand bicycle. join a local club. it's impossibly difficult to be a teenager but you have it in you, whether you're aware of it or not. I hope you can be kind to yourself, because you DO deserve that kindness. kia kaha [:
Venmo request "Sainted Baseball Player Mid-Swing"
Gonna make one hundred soups this year. Starting off with kapustnyak, carrot soup, chickpea soup, and parsnip soup.
4% complete.
8% complete baybeee. This may end up being a long post. Hope you like the colour of the soup.
Can't stop won't stop. 15 soups so far.
Slowed down for a minute because vet bills ate up my grocery budget but made it to 20%, baybEEEE.
Whoops I slowed down but BAM, 25%. I'm gonna make a comeback baybeeEEEE.
I AM BECOMING SO POWERFUL
Four new BEAN BASED SOUPS, the first one trailblazing because it was a taco soup recipe courtesy of @alex-of-1000-dumbasseries. 61 IN THE BAG, 39 TO GO.
I am also linking my soup planning doc because I can, and it's easier than tagging all of them individually.
Have I lost all my followers yet? NOT YET. Time for more soups. I'm up to 70 now.
OP this is a gorgeous post and Iâm so proud of you
Thank you, I will take these codfish words to my grave. Also, I have achieved 8 more, putting me at 77 soups. How is 70 plus 9 photos 77? I'm glad you asked.
Earlier, I forgot to include a photo of my cock-a-leekie-soup (#57) - pictured above as the first one of this set - and also I MADE TARATOR TWICE by accident so I've struck one from the record since I'm trying to make 100 soups here, not 99 and one twice.
A new bowl approaches. Bought myself some soup bowls from the 70s with goofy little geese on them for my own birthday (though I did not get them in time for my miyeok-guk), because what else is free will for. This puts me at 86. I JUST MIGHT MAKE IT? SOMEHOW?
A COLOURFUL BATCH featuring another Certified Tumblr Soup because people kept recommending Yeto's Soup, and they were right.
How am I at 92? ALL MY LIFE I'VE BEEN A QUITTER.
100/100!
certified soup post
this one's from last year but I just started my rotk reread and this scene makes me giggle every time
The devastating difference between how much time it takes to write something vs how fast people read it lol
you're falling in the trap!! it will be read by many people, many times, and it will live on in their memories. and maybe no single other human will match you in time spent dedicated to your story, but as a collective we will outlast you. acts of creation only grow when they are shared
This. Writing is not like dinner. It can be consumed many times
you write it once so it can be read forever

having the Aviation Accident Investigations Autismâąïž has actually done wonders for the way I process and respond to my own fuck-ups
And I don't just mean "oh, my little work mistake is actually nothing compared to a fiery crash that kills people," either. The reason commercial flight is so many orders of magnitude safer than any other form of transportation is because after every accident and incident, an independent regulatory body investigated it with the express goal of figuring out exactly what happened, why, and how to prevent the same thing from ever happening againânot to root out which person deserved the blame or the liability.
It's a simple, shockingly effective idea. It's also worlds away from how most people approach their own mistakes and the mistakes of others.
Because itâs never just one personâs fault. And even when it is, it still isnât.Â
The sharpest, best-trained pilots make worse decisions when they're tired or sick or stressed out, so there's two of them. The most dedicated and experienced air traffic controllers garble an instruction over the radio sometimes, so pilots are trained to always repeat clearances back to catch misunderstandings quickly. The best and brightest maintenance mechanic still overlooks a screw or misconnects a wire once or twice in her career, so aircraft systems are built with two or three or four layers of redundancy, and pilots are exhaustively trained to deal with failures safely.Â
Everyone eventually has a bad day. Every component breaks down. Every computer gets a bad a Windows update and spirals into a reboot doom loop. If itâs possible for one personâs mistake to domino into a mushroom cloud of a fuckup, then that task is too critical to be one person's sole responsibility. The accident sequence starts with the design of the systemâso how do you improve the system to keep it from happening again?
oh yeah. The âmodern commercial aviation is the safest form of transportâ thing only applies to planes, btw. A helicopter is a beautiful metal horse that wants to break its legs and die so so so badly
Bonus under cut
This is getting a lot of notes again and is reminding me that I should try to get out for more walks in the nice autumn weather
Botober 2025: the worst art prompts
Literally one person in the world asked for this: botober art prompts!
Generated by a tiny bargain basement neural net, not running on a huge datacenter but on a single laptop covered in cat hair. And not trained on the wealth of the internet but on 800 reader-submitted vintage jello recipes. I hand-selected some of my favorite ingredients and directions from the neural net's output and compiled them into this, possibly the worst art prompts of the year!
More about the process
Plaintext list of prompts under the fold
i think everyone should program at least once just so you realise just how fucking stupid computers are. because theyre so fucking stupid. a computer wants to be told what to do and exactly that and if you make one typo or forget one detail it starts crying uncontrollably
Spoopy Season Safety
Oh my god reblog to save a me thank you
Reblogging even though it's way past Halloween bc this is an important reminder!
Stay away from anything with charcoal during this season if you are on ANY medication!!!
This is misinformation!
Activated charcoal âflushes outâ orally ingested medication. This is why it can âflush outâ E pulls and birth control pills. It cannot âflush outâ injected T or E, it cannot âflush outâ a depo shot, and it does not impact it if you use something like T gel or patches.
You should only be careful if you take medication orally! Which is still a lot of people and important to know. But it does NOT impact anything thatâs not orally ingested!
Activated charcoal doesn't 'flush out' anything, it physically binds to a wide variety of chemicals, rendering them effectively inert. This is why it's used in oral poisoning cases: it can effectively massively reduce the dose of something.
However. It only works on stuff it can physically contact, and your body is not going to be absorbing activated charcoal into your bloodstream. It stays in your digestive system. So it can only affect a medication that is a) taken orally and b) not yet absorbed out of the digestive system and into the bloodstream.
Activated charcoal also doesn't differentiate between 'natural' and 'synthetic' substances, so it's just as likely to bind to a random assortment of the constituents of the food you've eaten, or, indeed, the other ingredients in the drink you've made/purchased before it's even consumed. It's not a magical medication nullifier, but it's also not food and should only really be consumed on the recommendation of a medical professional for an acute event.
Furthermore the 'activated charcoal' in things like Starbucks drinks is unlikely to be actually activated charcoal, which is a very specific thing, and may well be just. Normal charcoal ground up finely, which is not the same thing.
TL: DR: activated charcoal is unlikely to magically deactivate all your meds, but it's probably not a great idea to be consuming it anyway, as it's not digestible and may be adsorbing things you don't want it to, if what you're consuming in your drinks etc is indeed activated charcoal and not just a random and (hopefully) nontoxic black powder
the whole underlying issue with psychiatric drugs is not whether they are truly Good or Bad, itâs the human right to bodily autonomy. the nuances of the issue become much clearer when you arenât stuck in the weeds of moralizing psych diagnosis & treatment per se or trying to come to ontological conclusions about whether diagnoses are ârealâ or not. the DSM provides a deeply flawed and hierarchical framework for describing and organizing often very real human experiences for which people need support from other humans and sometimes chemicals. if you get too lost in the social machinations of diagnosis or committed to some wrongheaded idea that anyone who believes they need psych meds to survive is some kind of idiot capitalist bootlicker then you end up with extremely reductive views like âpsych drugs bad!â or âpsych drugs good!â When really what matters is that people have the power to make their own decisions about their own bodies/minds.
Landlord wants the grass cut in the middle of a heat wave ohh my god THE GRASS KEEPS THINGS COOL
our yard has more fireflies out of the entire neighborhood, it attracts flycatchers and several insectivorous species I fucking hate lawn culture so much
This is why you want grass.
"B-but the ticks!!" Hotter climates are contributing to the northward expansion of tick ranges! Congrats, now we have more ticks and fewer animals that eat them!!!
my comic from yesterday for make a terrible comic day based off a riveting interaction I had with my cats, plus a bonus one from today to illustrate a cute thing that happened on my morning walk
I get to be more free as an adult than I ever did as a child and I think more kids need to know that. as a high schooler part of what made my depression so bad was being told over and over again that it was the most carefree time of my life. while I was trapped in an abusive home + amongst bullies at school + in a body that wasnât right for me. opportunities to be carefree donât end when you turn 18. you can be more you than ever as an adult and thatâs such a gift. I know âit can get betterâ is an annoying thing to see over and over when youâre as trapped as I was back then. and I know that if youâre still a kid you deserve to be free right this second. but it can and will get better and this is not where life stops being interesting. promise
