Hunter is the oldest of his brothers by the manner of minutes, but that is a fact he cannot forget. He takes this arbitrary responsibility seriously, using his senses and street smarts to protect his family. His Whānau. Thus, the death of their parents weighed on his heart the heaviest. As the son of New Zealand immigrants but born and raised in the Bronx, he struggled to maintain his family’s identity as he took the role of their new leader.
Upon being drafted in 1942 (along with the rest of his brothers), he was forced to leave his baby sister, Omega, behind. She was the person he felt most obligated to protect, and now a forced duty came in between them. His loyalty to his family proved he was the natural fit for Sargent when Captain Rex pulled the four brothers into the 99th OSS, also known as The Bad Batch. They were a specialized team tasked with specialized missions, receiving orders directly from General Skywalker. Hunter lead the team to many successes, but his greatest accomplishment was bringing his brothers home safe when the war ended.
Civilian life was an adjustment after that. With Omega as his priority, he opted for a part time position as a cook at the Copacabana. This allowed him to spend time with his sister by day, and be surrounded by his brothers at night. A part of their team once again.
High quality art images, references, and taglist under the cut! ~
the bad batch is one of my comfort shows so this had to happen eventually
I had trouble for a while figuring out how I wanted to colour Crosshair, because I sometimes see heacanons of him being albino which is really cool, but with very pale skin he looked a bit too like my version of Echo, so he's closer to in the show here (still working on how I'd like to draw each of them, aside from the curly hair it's not totally decided).
I used a pose reference/base by @mellon-soup for this (apologies if the tag is unwanted) and a bunch of screenshots from the show of their armour. Possibly not a fan of drawing armour, it was fiddly.
Welcome to the masterlist for my Bad Batch World War 2 Era Alternate Universe: Copacabana!!!
The au is going to consist of several acts (like a play!) and will be composed of written chapters with illustrations, and maybe some comics too!
To kick us off, I am going to gradually reveal each character’s forties inspired design and give you a glimpse into their role in the universe! As each character is posted, their headshot will be revealed on the playbill below and their post will be linked in the “Meet the Cast” section. You can always come back to this masterlist to see the newest updates!
As always, I am very friendly, love mutuals, and LOVE Star Wars, so feel free to chat with me in the comments, via DM, or asks!! I will always reply and I am so beyond happy to have you all here!
Origins and Inspiration
All of this originated with from my post for this years @clonexocweek’s alternate universe prompt! After making the art for that challenge, I became WAY too inspired, and couldn’t stop thinking about it. Once I realized the real Copacabana club opened in New York City in 1941, the WW2 head cannons just kept bubbling up! Especially since the war ended in 1945, and the Bad Batch storyline starts right at the end of the Clone Wars!
As far as other inspirations, of course this is inspired by Copacabana by Barry Manilow (linked below), but it is also inspired by broadway and theater in general. Some direct inspirations were drawn from Hamilton, White Christmas, Captain America, and other wartime favorites! Music by Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and many more also serve to inspire this AU! And, of course, Star Wars and our favorite clones!
After a year of absolutely no commissions, it is time to get back on track. Reblogs are super appreciated
