The Ringbearer

My take on Orko’s backstory that I’ve apparently ended up drawing up, because I have a habit of making things more complicated than they should be. 

It’s the story of the young sorcerer Orko, a Trollan who’s been gifted with powerful magic and has earned the greatest of all his culture’s mage emblems, the Oracle Ring. While he’s sealed his reputation as “Orko the Great”, he still feels the pressure of the Ringbearer Legacy, and if he’s not careful, the threat of evil agents like the Unnamed Order could snuff out his light.

Every year on the anniversary of DDay, French citizens take sand from Omaha Beach and rub it onto the gravestones of fallen soldiers who gave their lives to liberate Europe. It gives the letters a golden shine. They do this for all 9,386 American soldiers buried there.

Translation:

the dancing scene in Tangled always gets to me because like... the king and queen are grieving, this is the hardest day for them, they don't take part in the celebration other than lighting the first lantern. but she's right there she's in the town the person you miss she's in the town she's painting the streets she's singing she's playing with the children. the person you're grieving is here and she's alive and she's dancing outside your window

This phrase has already entered my vocabulary re: media criticism where like. The viewer has a concrete view of what they expect a story to be based on the tropes and cliches they're used to seeing together, and when that doesn't happen, they judge it as a failed depiction of what they assumed it was going to be instead of judging it as what it actually is.

"This show is problematic because the hero didn't kill the villain at the end": When does he steal the bread?

"These two characters who were close friends throughout the series don't kiss at the end! What the fuck?": When does he steal the bread?

"This feels like it's missing a conclusion! Like, the protagonist does bad stuff and because of a critical decision he makes as a result of his major character flaws, meets tragedy in the end! Where's the part where he learns better and brings is love back from the dead and becomes a good guy and gets a happy ending?": When does he steal the fucking bread??
