Text: The cafe is run by vampires, free coffee and baked goods in exchange for one pint a month. The owner is even kind enough to tell us when our blood tastes wrong, medically or magically cursed.
You should be able to say “don’t touch me” to anyone ever in any context and not have it be considered in the realm of surprising or insulting imho if we ever needed to normalize something it’s this
i’m pretty calm and understanding but if i say “please don’t touch me” and you proceed to purposefully touch me, natural instinct will kick in and the large raptor which operates this machine will bite your fucking hand off
The cab nearly flies off the road below as it undulated like a giant wave. "The mountain doesn't like you," says the driver, gruff, which is too bad, because the cabin is already mine.
when i say autogynephilia isn’t real in any meaningful sense, i don’t mean that trans women don’t get turned on by themselves being hot. i mean that it is perfectly normal to do so and many cis people also do that
also you totally can transition for sex reasons. that's a thing you can do. your reason can absolutely be "god it would be so hot if i was a girl" and you're not a weird pervert for thinking that because cis girls think "god its so hot that im a girl" allllll the time. they really never stop thinking it
you can want to get bottom surgery solely so you can neopussy bounce on another trans girl so hard that it makes her want one for herself. that's totally legal
I once mentioned autogynophilia around a cis male friend in an xkcd “and quartz, of course” moment, and his immediate response was “wait… ‘autogynophilia’ meaning… loving your own vagina?? So just like… being a woman??? Am I missing something here, or am I just being stupid and it doesn’t actually mean that?”
And like. Yeah, honestly, got it in one, and when you put it in those terms it’s pretty inescapable how absurdly misogynistic the entire concept is as a pathology. Like ok, Blanchard, let's just go ahead and pretend that any of your data holds up to even cursory scrutiny, a thing I’m not actually sure it does. In that case, what you've discovered is that… (drum roll, please)… some women think that it's sexy to have sex with their sex organs. Wow. Groundbreaking. Maybe next you can investigate whether or not the female orgasm actually exists, or whether women all just lie back and think of England. And who knows, maybe after that you can even locate the elusive clitoris.
I think there is an inherent injustice in expelling students (particularly minors) from school.
like.
you misbehaved and instead of addressing the underlying issues driving your behavior we are removing your access to education (and therefore cutting you off from a large percentage of possibilities for your future) unless you have parents that are competent at homeschooling, parents with enough money and willingness to send you to private school, or parents willing and able to move to another school district. sucks to suck.
and we all know that the students most likely to misbehave in school are also most likely to be disadvantaged and/or have abusive/neglectful parents. these kids are the least likely to be able to be adequately homeschooled, sent to private school, or moved to another school district. even when these things do happen they don't solve the underlying struggles leading to the behavior.
behavior doesn't happen without cause. you can't solve misbehavior with punishment. setting someone up for failure in life by cutting them off from possibilities for their future is cruel.
not everything in a story has to or should be "realistic" but in my opinion there's a level of illusion that should be maintained, and I think that's the actual problem that many people try to pinpoint with the "unrealistic" criticism. Dialogue shouldn't be written like an actual transcript of human speech, but should contribute to the illusion of a real person speaking. A character is a tool of the story, not a narrative, but we're trying to maintain the illusion that they are a person. Worldbuilding should exist to serve the story, not to be a perfect simulacrum of how every aspect of nature/society etc. would actually play out for real. But there should be the illusion that it could be real, that organizations and systems would operate in such a way, that people might behave in such a way.
in conclusion: "Is this realistic?" <<wrong question. "Does this serve the illusion or disrupt it?" <<now we're talking
happy pride to whatever these two weirdos have going on
id 1: a pencil sketch of a filipino man sitting casually in a chair, with a left-handed bass in his lap. he's wearing men's formalwear that he's clearly been forced into, combat boots, and fingerless gloves. he has shoulder length hair that's partly covered by a bandana and messy eyeliner. /end id
id 2: a pencil sketch of a woman in a low-cut, vintage style dress who's leaning towards the camera. she's smirking slightly and holding her hand to her chest. hands are stretching into frame around her, offering various party favours; including a necklace that she's hooked onto one of her fingers on her other hand. /end id
I dunno, stop apologizing for your art. This includes not posting enough, too much, changing style, inconsistent style, repetition, subject. Its your art its your expression. Have fun.
uhhh spoilers under cut i guess? idk if youre not caught up maybe you wont want to know all this or it wont even make sense
-lorelai and paris were traveling in between different CTRL bases but still moving towards the border, likely to arrive at a base that isnt hosted in enemy territory
-when melodi says “they are asleep”, she is talking about the sea monsters 😊
-however i do love the naiads being noctural…. i think honestly they traditionally live at a depth where theres v little sunlight so the day/night cycles dont even mean much to them. but on Elysia (planet they crashed on) they are diurnal
-naiads live under the sea! some live on land as well cause theyre an amphibious species but the majority of the settlements are beneath the ocean which is what paris means when he says its hard to get a headcount
-i also think paris’s use of the term “naiad” is actually a bit colloquial and that there is a more specific name for deltas species. maybe more on that later but i’ll probably stick to naiad to refer to the species generally
-anyway, a lot of the food supply is just through hunting/fishing and gathering undersea vegetation, but a lot of it is also collecting and trading for food that grows on the surface. both would be available to melodi. she brought that stuff from her house lol.
-yeah melodi did kill a whale :) its a hunter culture they learn to kill things quickly and respectfully its very cool
-paris knows deltas species and delta does not which i think is really fucked up. delta never asked paris about it and realistically i think paris would have avoided the question out of guilt and delta wouldnt have gotten an answer either way
-this will be covered more later maybe but my favorite additional information about the epilogue is that paris and lorelai broke up a few months later. it was amicable but lorelai initiated and the main reason for that is they just have very different needs and lifestyles at this point. the most simple way i can put it is that lorelai’s career in politics is just beginning whereas paris is fucking retired. lorelai very much enjoys working with CTRL and wants to be continuously involved but paris is disabled and traumatized in a major way and honestly just needs to fucking rest. they have to split up.
-paris has dependency issues and slides into a weird gay roommate situationship w jay like one week after the breakup. imo lorelai anticipated this which is why she felt better about initiating the breakup and felt he would still have some safety net to keep him from totally spiraling
-paris is on friendly terms w CTRL but there isnt enough trust between them where he could ever feel comfortable living among them. there is just too much suspicion and guilt involved. they are technically accountable for him and he is involved w some stuff they do, mostly as a consultant, but its very behind the scenes work. he wouldnt go back into imperial territory unless he absolutely had to
-lorelai is on v v friendly terms w CTRL, just got her little membership ring. she’s in a weird gay situationship w vi and is testing the limits of her bisexuality. she is not ready to give up party girl lifestyle yet and her life actually still resembles crash out a lot except just the good parts. shes better protected and more competent now and has a vision she can work towards obsessively. she can fix them (empire)
-paris and lorelai are still best friends and would still consider each other to be like the most important person in each others lives. they have friendship bracelets 💌
okay that became a paris/lorelai infodump instead of actually addressing questions so uhhh lmk if i missed anything or if anything else needs clarification. thaaaaanks <333
There is one very important thing I need people without major dietary restrictions to understand: the distress caused by allergies, celiac disease, and other food restrictions is largely not about the food.
Do I miss some foods I can't eat anymore without getting sick? Sure, but that's not what really bothers me. What bothers me is being excluded from a huge portion of human social life of which food is a crucial component. What bothers me is the stress and social stigma of trying to figure out what I can safely eat. What bothers me is the amount of extra work and cost that is required of me to identify, obtain, and prepare safe foods. What bothers me is people treating my needs like a nuisance, as though I chose to be like this - as though their brief inconvenience to check an ingredients list is unreasonable, when I deal with this every day of my life forever.
I don't miss the food that much. I miss not having to worry about what I eat. I miss freedom. I miss when trying new foods and new restaurants was fun instead of a minefield. I miss not having to plan my entire life around the need for safe foods.
Food is such a basic human need, and a lot of people don't really need to think about it. When your danger foods can be anywhere and everywhere, suddenly your entire life revolves around avoiding them, and it massively sucks. You get used to it and it's not a big deal most of the time, but then you go to a new restaurant, or your office has a potluck, or you've been invited to a party and suddenly it feels just as miserable and exhausting as it ever has.
