our flag means death + onion headlines (part 3)
In season one, Ed says with anger, "We raid, we steal, we're onto to the next, it's all so fucking boring" and then in s2 with tears in his eyes he tells Frenchie, "We'll raid, we'll steal, we'll move onto the next, for ever and ever" and you can feel the sense of hopelessness that he's dealing with. But this time, it hurts more because he now knows what it feels like to be happy, to be excited about life, about not knowing what's next. He's experienced it with Stede and there wil never be another Stede. So he's really doomed to the ocean forever, just as he thought back in season one. This day, this version of Blackbeard, was gonna come eventually.
fellas can you belive it's been two months already since we saw two idiots kiss????
Room People say RENEW AS A CREW!!!
Here's hoping we will have the announce for Season 3 soon! @renewasacrew!!
sorry i'm just so devastated at stede going to sit with ed's body. he keeps it together until the crew is safe on the revenge and they're under way and then he gets himself together, takes a lantern, and goes to see ed. the shot of his feet, stepping so careful through the water - threatening to rise and overtake him, maybe - like he doesn't want to wake him. that he so so carefully doesn't touch ed's body, that he takes the face covering away as hot-quick as possible to avoid it, so he can see him. sitting with him, telling him the things he was too late to say. trying to work out a goodbye that he's not ready to give.
and then to grab onto ed so fast as soon as it's clear that ed's really still alive. the way he begs and makes promises and says you're safe and the grit-ache in his voice when he finally says come back to me and ed does. he does. he hears stede and he sees stede and there is someone waiting for him and he decides. i'm totally undone
JUST NOTICED BUTTONS IS ON A LEASH LMAO

TOMORROW
I’d rather drown than to go on without you.
this might be relevant again
stede saying "i'm afraid to see you. i'm afraid that your life is better without me" when ed is literally ending his life because he's lost the hope stede brought into his existence...stede being the light in ed's darkness...stede begging him to live and showing ed he matters and he is loved and someone out there believes in him and wants him around...i'll be here cryin all day lads
and i think it's important to view this in the context of the effect stede has had on everyone else - it's not that stede's love is a magical healing love that will make everything okay and i'm honestly really glad to know from the trailer that ed and stede still have work to do.
stede's effect is felt throughout the crew though - jim's recount of the wooden boy story, izzy's invocation of talk it through, whatever jim says about people on this ship meaning something to each other, etc - and that's the effect i'm talkin about. stede's hope. stede's belief that things can change. that things can be different.
the fact that stede loves ed is, alone, not going to be enough to save ed from his self-loathing. ed has to find his way for himself. but stede gives him hope that he can be saved, that he's worth saving. stede's ability to see something beautiful in him, that he's a good guy, is a boost for ed believing in it himself.
in ed's thoughts, stede does provide a light in the darkness, but he doesn't force ed up out of the water. he's a merman. he's meeting ed there.
he's giving ed something to hold onto while he's underwater, giving him time to get himself to the surface, but he's not above ed reaching down to force him up. and since he's a merman, he's safe in ed's darkness - he's safe under the water. he can wait until ed's ready.
ed wakes himself up. stede just gives him hope enough to do it.
