For a moment, she regarded him, and his words. The guy had looked pretty young... she looked off at the highway where the kid was now but a dot on the horizon. She hoped Danny was right to let them go, and didn't just leave a seed of evil left alone to sprout.

"Did he give you the money he took from the till at least?" Vayne asked as she pulled out a pack of cigarettes, she grabbed one for herself, then held it out in case Danny wanted one. "Cause I'm sure the store owners will be wanting that back, and I don't feel like explaining... well, anything really,"

And she, unlike Danny, had to at least somewhat mind things like the public's tolerance for her. Not that she was popular, far from it; but she was at least reliable to solve problems, if you were desperate enough to ask.

It was a fact that she hadn't yet learned, that the Rider and Danny were almost two different beings. How the burning skull does not even register the offered cigarette where Danny would have chomped at the bit. How blazing eyes burn steadily ever forward until the presence is all but gone from even his sight.

"Something is off." Information wasn't being given to them, withheld purposefully to make the young boy seem worse than he had been. Something he had yet to identify but that had been no less prodding at the back of his mind since this had all begun.

Did she realize things were off yet? When he turned to look into her eyes as well. A rumbling echo of distaste escaping from the burning flame where a throat had been. Mundanity.

Why did they need the Rider?

"I am a Spirit of Vengeance. I punish the wicked and lay upon them the hell that they deserve. I am not a murderer of petty thieves and hungry teenagers." He repeats, a teachable moment. What evil had caused the Rider to want to burn to the surface?

Danny is relatively a relaxed guy. Being Ghost Rider has left him very visibly with the image of someone who is perpetually tired. Legitimately constant dark circles underneath his eyes. Like being the Rider exhausts his soul even if physically he's fine.

"I didn't fucking kill them, but I understand what you're saying." Frank shook his head, he remembers Mother Mercy's words. His violence just brings more violence, that he needed to focus it more so that when the tide comes back, it doesn't pull anyone else along with it.

"The empty vessel of revenge offers nothing to those in need, blind vengeance does nothing to heal the sick, nor feed the hungry. A nun told me that. She died later for helping me." He closed his eyes, sighing, pinching the bridge of his nose. "It's hard not letting it suck you in. You don't notice how bad it's getting when the bodies stack high, Danny. You just keep going so you never notice it. I don't know how to fuckin' break this shit. I don't know if I want to."

God if there was anyone who could understand that feeling it was Danny. Feeding so much pain to the gluttonous rats who tear others down for their own gain. Staring into the eyes of some miserable soulless bastard and burning out their entire being hollow for the people they'd hurt.

"If you don't trust anyone else when it comes to this, trust me. I know exactly how you feel." Danny could practically feel the Rider rub so enticingly against his Id, fuel his need to bury himself in the power again. Like he couldn't feel normal without it.

"We gotta let people pull us back, not to stop us but make us remember that we're doing this with purpose. You're not just shooting Tommy Fucknut for robbing the corner store just like I'm not burning out some kid's eyes for stealing a loaf of bread. Otherwise it doesn't stop."
