Would it still be wrong to do commissions if you traced from ex. a pic of your own dog that you have taken yourself?

Eeeh..I want to say it’s not, but I know some people will still be uncomfortable that you traced, period. Especially with a commission. People don’t want traced photography for commissions, they want to see things done in your style.

If the photograph is taken by YOU, then for sure you can trace or use it as ref. However, tracing someone elses photography is disrespectful. Photography is just as much of an art as hand drawing something.
