Like it’s frustrating bc on the one hand, Hot Allostatic Load is not an immaculate story illustrating this point - it’s a messy personal narrative that does what it’s supposed to do. It wasn’t written to be theory, it was written to tell a story.

On the other hand, since I wrote Position of Guilt two years ago, I’ve been told/seen/read literally hundreds of HALs and the stories along with them, not all towards trans women but about 90% of them towards trans women, and I’m so fucking tired because I keep watching trans women hurt or exiled and traumatized over the most idiotic shit possible that could’ve been solved with a few mediated conversations and education if the goal hasn’t instead been to eradicate the target.

I hate this shit so much. I hate that I see/hear/read a new story every couple days. I hate that I know for many of them it’ll never truly end no matter how they run or hide, like mine. I hate knowing that so many people, even ones who allegedly know better, will do it the second it’s useful or beneficial to them.

I’m so fucking tired of knowing it’s only gonna keep getting worse before it gets better. I’ve only managed to preemptively stop one of those hundreds, of another Black trans woman in DC, before it could get started. The rest I’ve only been able to give the comfort of knowing they’re not alone. As the fascism gets worse, so will the social scapegoating of trans women and the impetus to eradicate any of us who are a “problem”.

I’m so fucking tired of only being able to react, not preempt.
