Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are diseases that can strike at any age. Being part of the youth does not guarantee you from them. They are extremely life altering and they add on to the stresses of daily life, including the symptoms that seem to pile up, one on top of the other. Health in general is a blessing and also a gift that many of us with inflammatory bowel disease know does not last forever as we once thought. We have seen both sides of the spectrum, whether it be the healthy side or the sick side.

Attention spoonies who are heat intolerant! (Or anybody else effected by heat)
This stuff is pure magic, you spray it on your face a couple of times or in the air around you and it instantly cools you down, doesn’t effect my makeup as a bonus. It’s a fiver in boots but might be cheaper elsewhere, it’s saving me this summer so worth every penny
Edit: might also be good for people experiencing hot flushes/menopause
When You’re The Only Spoonie In Your Family, So You Get Angry At Everything...
You don’t need to change for anyone. No one else is in charge of your body but you!
Just IBD things: Getting really fuck ing happy when you have a regular poop!
When People Wanna Comment On How You Have Changed Due To Your Illness(es)...
please respect people who are mentally ill and disabled who cannot work. please respect people who look like they’re just relaxing all day when really they’re waging an internal war just to stay alive or fight their pain. please respect people who could not finish school, people who had big plans and could not see them through because of disability. people who look from the outside like they’ve “given up” or “aren’t doing anything.” people who are hospitalized repeatedly or permanently, and people who are grown adults who are still dependent on others. please respect disabled and mentally ill people.
this is not a polite suggestion, by the way. it’s an angry demand. we are people, and we deserve the same respect as anyone else.
Me: I wish there was somewhere I could speak freely about my mental illnesses and traumatic experiences
My brain: therapy
Me: blocked
person: but you're too young to be -
my disabled ass: don't even think about finishing that sentence Janet
Getting a chronic illness/pain diagnosis is like:
Doctor: Good news, you’re not dying! You’re just going to feel like you’re dying. For the rest of your life.
My body: Not happy :(
Me: Uh oh, what's wrong? Is there anything I can do to -
My body: NOT HAPPY NOT HAPPY NOTHAPPYNOTHAPPYNOTHAPPY
I made a few Spoonie versions of the Same Hat!! meme.

Chronic Illness Thing #83
Is this an actual sickness or just a flare?
