"The 'Golden Age of Tango' is generally accepted as being from 1935 to 1955. Most of the music played at milongas are from the Golden Age.

In the late 1920s and early 1930s, the whole world had been in an economic slump and this included Argentina.

Tango music had also been becoming more complex and difficult to dance to.

In mid-1930s, Juan d'Arienzo exploded onto the scene returning to the driving beat of the Guardia Vieja.

By the mid to late 1940s, tango was at its height. There were 50 or so orchestras and countless ensembles playing around the city at salons, cafés, cabarets, confiterías and social and sports clubs."

- Born in Pehuajo (300 km to BsAs) and started playing with local orquestas when 13  - in 1938, moved to Buenos Aires - started playing with Calo in 1939 - Songs Maderna made with Calo:Jamas Retornaras, Qué te Importa que te Llore, Trasnochando, Cuento Azul, La Noche que te Fuiste... Beron and Iriarte singing (1940-1945) - started his own orquesta in 1945 - died in 1951  - after he died, violinist Aquiles Roggero continued playing his style with the name "Orquesto Simbolo Osmar Maderna"

He was born and raised in Florida, Buenos Aires. He spent his 20 years in Spain, working as an engineer, in exile. He started dancing tango at 17, but he remembers listening to Troilo with Floreal Ruiz for 4 years at a club in his neighbourhood, and those years for him were the most influencial. He worked as the coordinator and musicalizador at milonga El Beso for ten years, until 2012.

"And meanwhile tango was evolving, a historical event took place: the private act of a man and a woman embracing gained public acceptance. In other words, the ancient gesture of love broke out of its seclusion in the private sphere. Today, a century later, the tango is danced in over 300 cities worldwide."

"I always sang for dancers. Because all the orquestas in Buenos Aires played for dancers. And the clubs that we went to on Saturdays and Sundays were filled with only dancers. The clubs were filled with dancers - young ones. It was there that Juan Carlos Copes was born. Also Zotto, Virulazo and Elvira. Many dancers were born there... the glories of our popular music."

"I had a lot of success with romantic tangos like Nada, Percal, La Capilla Blanca, Nido Gaucho... All these tangos I sang were successes... I have a lot of tangos that I like that make me cry. There are various tangos that I sing but I cry within, for myself... The tangos for example, Los Mareados, Recien, El Bazar de los Jugetes, that is a tango about kids who don't have a toy, who have never gotten a toy.
