I don't see why it should be mandatory, but I've seen some pretty interesting makeup looks from officers when they're on shore leave and at formal events.

The only person I've really seen in blue eyeshadow before was Lieutenant Spock once- it was his first day as an ensign and the crew had done the formal dinner prank on him, usually people just show up in their dress uniform and we get a bit of a laugh, but he'd shown up in really formal Vulcan robes and that blue eyeshadow. We all were more stunned than anything.

I just watched a video essay about how the twilight movies specifically have compelling evidence for the entire thing being something Bella made up after falling down the stairs and going to the hospital and usually I hate those “it was all just a dream” theories but frankly this one is hilarious so I like it
