Loustat first time
Whatever this is
I actually love the Louis and Regina subplot because it really is a continuation of the way Louis has always treated women, as a source of emotional labour that he can throw money at and have them make him feel better. It’s Miss Lily all over again, it’s “paying a whore to sit in a room and talk with him”. Making Claudia was always about Louis’ feelings under the pretence of saving her from the fire. He wants to save Regina from poverty but it’s all to make himself feel better. She sees through him but she’s so broke that she can’t afford to say no
Also really interesting to me that Louis only proposes this after he finds out she does sex work. Like, I don't know if it's necessarily a conscious connection he's making, but he definitely feels like this is someone whose time can be bought. Just like Miss Lily's time could be bought...

Claudia going after Louis and Lestat... AS YOU SHOULD QUEEN
the dm scene great but my favourite part was when armand added in a little gossip in the middle of all of the "for 52 years i have loved you and remember when you needed to cry really bad one day i made sure you got to do that alone in a pretty church and i have done little things for you and loved you for that long and also lestat is FUCKING HIS MOM isn't that crazy"
tw/sa.
Of FUCKING COURSE I got blocked for blasting them for this. But specifically if you guys don’t like this season or don’t like Lestat that’s fine but calling him “ a perfect victim “ when this season deals with his abuse specifically at the hands of his mother raping him. And then in the comments and agree with someone saying that people were unfairly vilifying Gabrielle and the show this season wasn’t making her sympathetic…. This season is about Lestat and mostly his pov . WHY THE FUCK would he view his mother as being deeply sympathetic when he still couldn’t even fully understand she had raped him? To Think Lestat is less messy or complex this season and that everyone was worse and this was done on purpose for poor little Lestat and not the fact that the show deals with unreliable narrators, and that ur memories/perceptions will change over time based on ur perception of how things happen or how you wanted them to AND That majority of people make themselves look better in their own stories? Wild. if you think he became less messy and complex, that’s perfectly OK but using the terminology, perfect victim, describe him when the season specifically dealt with him being raped by his own mother is absolutely fucking vile. And to say that this season went out of its way to make his mother seemed less sympathetic, and that people were unfairly making her a villain again she literally raped her own fucking son ???? Having no media analysis skills is one thing having a really bad take on a show is one thing but to use that type of terminology when describing a sexual abuse victim based regardless of if that character is fake or in a real life instance is absolutely fucking gross and well I normally find people that immediately block instead of actually having a conversation to be incredibly childish but at this point if you actually don’t see anything wrong with calling him that . I absolutely want you to block me..if u think it’s unfair that Gabrielle is less empathetic this season or that people are being unfair to her for literally raping her own son and that this is all just to make Lestat seem better and not you know something that’s literally canon?? Nope. Fuck off. I think Gabrielle is incredibly complex and fascinating character. Especially being forced to be married and having children and being forced into a feminine lifestyle when she did not want that. I actually really love her character because she’s so deeply complex but that doesn’t change the fact that she raped her own son and deserves to be criticized for that ( just like lestat deserves to be criticized for his OWN abusive behavior)explaining the root of someone’s trauma doesn’t magically absolve them of guilt or criticism and of course, the season is gonna be showing Lestat better because that’s how he tries to view himself like most people. I truly don’t think this would be a conversation at all if this was reverse.. yall would NOT being saying fans are unfairly vilifying a fictional father character who raped his own daughter and calling her the perfect victim, and that anyone criticizing her father is just trying to make her look better? Nope. Revealing that he was sexually assaulted by his mother does not make him look better It just explains aspects about his character the first two seasons didn’t cover because he didn’t tell anyone because he was in denial about the fact he was abused by his mother while still loving her which is quite literally comment in victims of abuse, especially with family members.
the very idea that someone could sit down, watch lestat puke while still trying to rationalize the abuse, have a full blown panic attack over it when louis yells that there is no rationalizing this, and then go say it's consensual...that it's not portrayed as abuse...insane...
i also think a lot of people aren't really getting the *point* of louis' reaction. it's extremely harsh and judgmental and completely insensitive to the fact that lestat is being abused, but that is the purpose of it. the entire season is lestat attempting to justify it. this is louis saying that you cannot justify it. there is no rational way to justify that happening. and when lestat has a breakdown over it, they both sort of realize at the same time that this means lestat has been suffering incestuous sexual abuse for 200 fucking years.
it overwhelms lestat, and it clicks for louis. that's when he changes tacts, when he comforts lestat, when he gently tries to help him admit that it's been abuse all along in the bar. it's so realistic, such a necessary sequence.
i think there is unfortunately a knee jerk reaction people have to abuse like this, esp when it's mother/son, where it's just "gross", "weird", or "sick", as louis says. where the child is not taken to be a victim, somehow. i think the show is very honest in having this be louis' initial reaction, until he sees lestat's panic, until he properly thinks it through for a second. and then he gets it, and he feels horrible about what he said. again, it's just all very realistic and bittersweet. everyone involved did an incredible job with this storyline imo.
They wanted to and you can’t tell me otherwise
One thing that is honestly so frustrating to me as a fan is constantly having my views and opinions being ridiculed either directly in my comments or indirectly by people sharing their own opinions or responding to people with similar opinions as mine. Especially when you're proven over and over to be right. For example Claudia, I said in an earlier post that Louis and Lestat didn't give a fuck about Claudia and said and I quote 'they care for Claudia in the sense of wanting her happy and alive but don't do anything to achieve that.' Cause you can't say you love Claudia and imply you'd do anything for her while always treating her like some second priority thrift shop doll. And although I like many don't agree with some of the word choices and writinf of the Claudia rant in ep 6 it does fully confirm to me that I was right. And again except for the racial remarks I am so satisfied that Louis and some of the fans got to hear that.
And just to emphasise it since I'm shittinf on Louis right now. Lestat wasn't better. Louis was constantly enabling the abuse Claudia received. Being responsible for her suffering during the fire, the turning, the abuse under Lestat, the abuse and control from Armand and eventually her final death. So obviously the main focus is on Louis in terms of Claudia but considering some of the edits I've seen. Y'all need to drill it in your head that Lestat fucking SUCKS. He waz neber a good father to her, and did not care despite how much he might say it. And the closure at the end was just those two being per usual fucking selfish. That closure was them wanting feel good about their actions and life while fucking up Claudia's, they nevee deserved closure.
lestat calling nicki his “bipolar boyfriend” breaks my heart because what do you MEAN nicki died before he had a name for what he was feeling and why he was feeling it, let alone any treatment for it?? what do you MEAN lestat learned the term as it came about in the 20th century and recognized it in the memories of his dead first love????????? what do you MEANNNN
