I disagree with that. I see mages as more students who apply their gained knowledge to manipulate the Aspect, while Seers are the teachers, needing to teach their Aspect’s lessons to the party.
the difference the way I see it is that Seers need to learn their knowledge from some way, it’s not inherent to them, they need some kind of person of object or a vision, some kind of teacher figure or object. But Mages don’t need to learn it so much as just, experience it naturally, gather the info on their own.
I compared it before to a Seer being the Student who learns from a book, second hand knowledge, while the Mage is the person who wrote the book, they had the firsthand knowledge, the actual experience of the knowledge.
but even then both Mages and Seers do end up sharing their knowledge, because that’s kind of what you DO with knowledge in general, the info it contains is useless unless it’s in the right hands. So some element of guiding or teaching is inherent to both classes. In fact I think of all the Seers and Mages in Homestuck, they both equally did a lot of knowledge sharing and guiding others. Terezi had her big guiding moment with John in the retcon, but was also a follower of the Prophpets, mysterious figures we never really get info on. Meulin often guides other people to act the way she wants so as to fulfill her ships, as well as her ancestor form the Disciple being the one to record and share the teachings of the Sufferer down through the generations. Kankri also in both forms does a lot of attempted guiding and teaching, either as Troll Jesus or as the annoying drama causing friend in the group. Rose is actually then the one I would has often been guided more than has guided others, she mapped out the path through the Void and both wrote and read books on Sburb. Then also she was groomed by Doc Scratch and often earlier relied a lot on her magic eight ball for information. and then Sollux I actually can’t think of any moment where he decided to really guide or teach others, but nor was he really guided or taught by anyone, he’s the epitome of self taught. I guess you could maybe count him trying to teach Karkat about coding as possibly counting? but he gave up on that.
But yeah it’s like Healing with Creation classes, it’s not restricted to Sylphs, it’s a Maid and a Sylph thing, or more accurately, it’s just a Creation thing. Like how Teaching/Guiding is a Knowledge thing. not either a Seer or Mage thing.
