Repeal 377A and legalise same-sex marriage in Singapore

Currently, same-sex marriage is illegal in Singapore. Section 377A of the Penal Code, which dates back to when Singapore was a British colony, also states that "any male person who, in public or private, commits, or abets the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years."

The government has recently opened up to public consultation, meaning that they will consider feedback with regards to the Penal Code. As such, I would be submitting my petition to legalise same-sex marriage and repeal section 377A of the Penal Code.

Submissions are due on 30 September 2018, and hence I really need to collect as many signatures I can before the time is up. I need all the help I can get, and would really appreciate everyone who signs and reblogs this!

Legalisation of same-sex marriage in Singapore

Hey everyone! In Singapore, someone has set up a petition to keep the law against same sex marriage the same, preventing same-sex relationships to feel safe in their own country. Already it has over 25,000 signatures and is quickly growing. My friend set up a petition for the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Singapore in the hopes that the government will notice and we will be able to help Singapore progress further. However, because of this new petition (Keeping penal code 377A in Singapore) it has almost completely ruined our chances of legalising same-sex marriage.

Homosexuality is not a crime. It’s not abnormal or a sin. Just because you don’t agree with it does not mean that you get to control who loves who. It’s not right to suppress people from sharing such a basic human emotion.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION AND REBLOG TO SUPPORT LGBTQ+ RIGHTS IN SINGAPORE.

This is so important to me and to many other people in the younger generation of Singapore. We, like India, would like to love who we want to love without being seen by the law as a criminal.
