NEW GIRL 2.01 - Relaunch
Thinking about the day Frank Langdon came face to face with his addiction, looking into the eyes of his mentor, his friend, lying through his teeth, terrified of what was to come.
Thinking about the first relapse, perhaps of several, when he questioned if any of it was worth it anymore, if he was strong enough to do this, or if would he ever be.
Thinking about ten months where no one reached out, even after years of shared trauma, stories, and saves. Thinking about him checking his phone anyway, just in case.
Thinking about him sitting in the PTMC lobby, heart racing, questioning if he should just walk out the door, find another residency program, give up on medicine all together. Thinking about him building up the courage to walk in anyway.
Thinking about him speaking up, seeking acceptance. And thinking about Mel King looking at him like he hung the fucking moon.

What's the fic you would write if you had the energy for it? Ambitious, complex, novel-length—the fanfic you'd make if you could.

Hey do you know what rumination is?
Rumination is probably the most common type of OCD compulsion, but I rarely see anyone talking about it. I've talked to multiple people diagnosed with OCD who didn't even recognize it as a compulsion.
Basically, if you have OCD you have terrible intrusive thoughts. They can be about anything, but common themes are fear of being a bad person, fear of hurting someone, fear of contamination. etc.
Rumination is when you get stuck in a spiral. Rumination is when you spend hours catastrophizing, overthinking, analyzing, telling yourself it's going to be okay.
I'll say it again:
Rumination is a compulsion.
Rumination is a compulsion, and that means you have to stop doing it.
I did ERP (exposure response prevention) for my OCD with a therapist! For 9 months! And it did help, but the idea didn't really click until I found this website a couple years later.
And Oh My God. It made things make so much more sense, and I was able to pull myself out of an episode even though I wasn't in therapy or on meds at the time.
Genuinely if you have OCD, or even if you suspect you have OCD, I'm begging you to read some of these articles.
Like this was genuinely life changing for me.
Here are some of the ones that were most helpful to me:

How to Stop Ruminating

I expected my cpap machine to make a dramatic difference right away but after waking up from my first night on the machine I think the experience can be described as I woke up and thought “well I don’t think I feel dramatically different but it also definitely feels like something in there has been unclogged”
It’s like uh like when you finally remember to clean the hair out of the shower drain after a while. But with my general vibe.
According to my app which no is not called cpapp unfortunately I only stopped breathing 1.7 times per hour. Which might sound weird but during my sleep apnea test I stopped breathing 23.5 times per hour so as you can imagine breathing is generally better than not breathing
I’m not talking about my health just to overshare btw. I think there’s probably other young people out there with sleep apnea who might need to hear someone in their 20s discussing this.
Don’t feel ashamed to get tested if you’re tired all the time or someone has told you that you gasp for air in your sleep. Get your shower drain unclogged.
I'm 35 and I got tested for sleep apnea in the fall and I was having OVER 50 EVENTS PER HOUR.
Got my cpap and holy shit the difference. I am actually rested when I go to bed at a reasonable time. I no longer need daily 2-4 hour naps just to function.
And I also suspect that it might be helping me not get as many colds, because that nightly airflow clears things out.
I'm really glad I have my cpap now and everything is better, but also wish I had got tested earlier, because maybe if I'd caught this sooner I wouldn't have developed some of the other health issues I deal with. But I thought I was so tired all the time because I'm a parent and autistic.
So yeah, even if you think you know why you're always tired, get tested just in case.
even if your sleep apnea is mild, CPAP can make a big difference - mine is so mild it's not even technically sleep apnea, it's "upper airway resistance syndrome", and having CPAP still really improved my fatigue AND lessened my insomnia. don't be afraid of CPAP, it seems scary but it's really not that bad!
I’m about to turn 30 and got my sleep apnea diagnosis and CPAP this past year. I joked to my uncle (who has the same machine as me) that I always feel awkward because I’m the youngest person in my neurologist office and he immediately responded “it’s nothing to be embarrassed by, it’s not a big deal if you don’t make it one”. which like true but I was trying to have a heehee haha moment about it!
Then I talked to a college friend who has one too and he jokes we’re team resmed so love that for us.
Also I felt like an imposter because I only had 6 events per hour, so like the threshold for sleep apnea, but my doctor is really happy we’re addressing it while I’m young.
Okay last thing no one tells you this but if you get the full face mask (I didn’t have a choice when I picked my machine up) you will be swallowing air in your sleep and feel super bloated and gassy. I’m waiting for the nose only mask to come in but I woke up the first night I used my CPAP in excruciating pain and thought either my appendix burst or I had the worst cyst rupture imaginable. It was just gas.
I don’t feel all that much more rested but I’ve also been fighting the worst depressive episode of my life for the last year so I’m generally exhausted these days. I’m hoping to see more of an impact when the fog eventually lifts.

Favorite Otps/Pairings: Superman & Lois Lane (Superman) “I love you, Lois. I probably should have told you that a long time ago."
season two of the pitt is wild for a lot of reasons but the kingdon of it all is just bananas. what do you MEAN we had a special apology from langdon to Mel a woman he worked with one (1) time a year ago AND she said he never let her down AND they had an inside joke AND Mel says lots of nice things about him AND they have similar interests AND he was the one to treat her head injury AND before treating the aforementioned head injury he fixed his hair AND he talked her down in the ambulance bay AND reaffirmed Becca’s independence and autonomy even to Mel AND was grinning like a fool when Becca said Mel talked about him. we feasted this season!! kingdon slowburn CANCELLED this is a fast burn they’re gonna be married by season five
