I keep coming back to the Russian monologue and every time it leaves the same ache because ya lyublyu tebya isn’t the only love confession in that moment
It’s in the way Shane hears Ilya struggling for the words and tells him to speak in Russian instead. Not because Shane understands Russian but because he understands Ilya.
He understands that some feelings are too heavy to carry in a language that isn’t your own. So he gives Ilya the space to stop fighting for the right English words and just let himself speak.
And Ilya does. He pours out his grief, his loneliness, his love, everything he has been carrying. All of the things he has been trying to hold together finally spill out.
and then there’s Shane, who cannot understand the words but closes his eyes and listens anyway like Ilya’s voice alone is enough.
Their love is everywhere in that moment. It pours out through Ilya’s vulnerability in speaking and through Shane’s vulnerability in listening. To me, that is the most profound love confession in the scene.
Because love is not only being able to say “I love you” sometimes it is trusting someone enough to show them the parts of yourself you struggle to put into words, and loving someone enough to stay and listen.
Months later, it still leaves me emotional.

Should I be saving my money for a down payment on a house and getting rid of furniture so I have less to move? Yes. And also yes.
But consider:
She's $300 and I need her
She's here!!
