Gonna say it -- The Mandalorian might be one of the best shows I’ve ever watched this year.

Just finished the damn series and no, Fall 2020 cannot come soon enough. 

Out of everything in the show -- the badass main character who also happens to have a heart of Beskar with a nugget of gold in the center, the baby who is going to get whoever suggested a “Yoda meme-baby” idea a huge fucking raise, the incredible guest stars like Gina “My Biceps Are Bigger Than Your Dreams” Carano and Bill “I Drop Children On Their Fucking Heads” Burr....

...out of all that, I fucking love how they emphasized that The Way of The Mandalorian is an all-inclusive thing. They aren’t just their weapons and armor, but their culture that they’ve managed to keep alive despite diminishing numbers.

For John “Paz Viszla” Favreau and Dave “Trapper Wolf”  Filoni, I will only say this -- yes, gentlemen, this is the way you handle Star Wars. 

Looking forward to Season 2.

Anakin Skywalker was strong as hell.

And no, not just with The Force. 

Like, I’m 99.9% sure his dick melted off in Mustafar.

And he still managed to save himself and his family. 

The guy was basically a barely-breathing stump of a man...and still became one of the most iconic badasses in mainstream media, ever.

Can’t wait for a Harry Potter sequel series where it turns out Voldemort is still alive and another Chosen One has to destroy him. Oh, and Harry’s a depressed alcoholic now whose wife left him.

And JK Rowling is messy as fuck, but she seems alright.

Not a huge Harry Potter fan, first off. 

Always thought yelling “Abracadabra” to kill someone just kind of lessened the impact.

Anyways...yeah, Rowling’s kind of an idiot...but it’s also kinda obvious that she didn’t do any research on what Forstater was actually trying to do which was to give bigoted beliefs and statements the same protection afforded to religious/cultural beliefs. 

Again, I might have a much worse reaction if this happened involving an author or artist that I actually liked -- but I think Rowling’s just a bit misinformed and as common these days, just let out a brain-fart into the cloud of Twitter. 

I am a transman -- I agree with Forstater that I will NEVER be able to change my biological sex. Even after extensive surgery, my genetic imprint will still be that of a woman. 

However, I am NOT just my genetic material. Me not being able to have children the way a biological man can does NOT, in any way, invalidate me or my presenting gender and that’s where I think Forstater’s little stunt with the 2010 Equality Act goes way too far. 

As for Rowling -- yeah, I think she might have just had a case of foot-in-mouth Tweeting. I might not be a particularly big fan of her work but the woman knocked herself off the billionaire list after donating so much of her fortune and from what I’ve heard is an exceptionally gracious author to fans who make transformative writing based on her work. 

So yeah, JK, you dun goofed -- but this transman thinks you deserve a second chance. 

Forstater though -- come on, get your act together.

Finn should’ve been the hero of the Disney Trilogy.

Or at least the deuteragonist.

He should’ve been a full-pledged Stormtrooper who’s already watched plenty of his comrades die in battle, not a naive janitor. 

He doesn’t even have a name in the beginning. 

He shouldn’t have been immediately welcomed by The Rebellion -- have them throw him in a jail cell for interrogation, with only Poe showing him any sympathy and vouching for him. 

Have him struggle to fight against his conditioning as a soldier and fight alongside people who have killed so many of his fellow soldiers without a single thought. 

Have him be trained alongside Rey -- Finn isn’t as strong with The Force, but is  surprisingly effective with a lightsaber (especially since they keep showing him holding it in the initial promo material). Rey is much more attuned to the Force and together, they make a nearly unstoppable team. Luke Skywalker, the Luke we know from the original series, wouldn’t think twice about training a former enemy; after all, he saved his own father when he saw what little of the Light remained in him -- he’s going to trust Finn and ask for their help to bring back Ben. 

(See, in my version, Ben attacks Luke first. He takes after Anakin’s paranoia and nearly kills someone who loves him, the same way Vader did to Padme. )

Rey finds out she’s a Palpatine in the second movie and it takes Finn and Poe’s combined efforts to lead her back to the Light. Kylo Ren becomes even more obsessed with Rey because of her lineage, believing them to belong together. 

Meanwhile, Finn, formerly known as FN-2187, is fast becoming a legend among the other Stormtroopers. 

The Traitor.

The Deserter.

The Stormtrooper turned Jedi.

I feel like this movie was made by people who didn’t care as much about the movies as they did about making a political statement. 

To note, making a political statement in your movies is fine! 

But, please for the love of all that is holy, respect your audience, respect the creators and respect your art.

Besides Star Wars, I also frequently write about the Devil May Cry series and we DMC fans have first-hand knowledge of what happens when someone who doesn’t give a shit about the franchise and blatantly disrespects their audience go in with that mindset of “This shit you like is fucking lame but WE’LL make it better!”

Personally, I actually liked how DmC: Devil May Cry turned out -- it’s pretty fucking fun as hell and had some great ideas. 

But it did what Disney Star Wars did almost beat for fucking beat. And now, despite being a decent, above-average and pretty fun action game, there are people out there who will swear up and down that this was one of the worst games ever created.

Anakin WAS able to redeem himself.

Here’s another post-TROS tidbit thought. 

I’ve heard some people go that Vader didn’t actually redeem himself or that it was too little too late.

For me, he absolutely fucking did. 

He killed the Emperor and saved Luke and I’m kind of befuddled when people downplay those two acts with “But is it THAT important?”

Of course they are -- he just killed off Yoda’s Sith equivalent and made sure that both his children, both of them having inherited his insane Force ability, will be able to spearhead a new generation. 

Yes, Anakin Skywalker did some fucked up shit -- he killed children and choked his wife, leading to her death. 

And for that, he was punished greatly -- maimed, disfigured, in constant pain both physically and mentally, all his potential and dreams down the fucking drain, being controlled by his “Master” whom he can’t kill because even he thinks it’s pointless now. 

You know how Kylo Ren tried to amp up his Force abilities by hitting his wound?

Anakin did that too, except to a much MUCH more painful degree:

THAT is why Vader was so terrifyingly powerful with the Dark Side -- he was in constant, never-ending anguish and guilt. 

Luke showed him that there was still something left of his former self but only Vader could make that choice to revert back to Anakin Skywalker. 

He pointedly tells Luke to tell his sister as well:

The way he words this is perfect because for Anakin, he’s made a career out of subverting people’s expectations about him.

He’s always been unpredictable -- until Luke came along. 

Luke, against all odds, inherited his father’s long forgotten heart and managed to see through the armor, through the trauma, through the years of agony and gave his father the strength to save himself.

Anakin was The Chosen One. And Luke was The Last Jedi who went on to rebuild a succesful Jedi Order with Leia and Han (happily married) by his side.

Yeah, I watched Rise Of Skywalker.

I had some idea about the leaks but still wanted to see for myself.

Calling the Disney Star Wars Trilogy “badly written fanfiction” is an insult to FANFICTION.

Anakin Skywalker is one of the best archetypes of The Chosen One ever.

He’s my go-to character whenever one of my nieces or nephews ask me who my favorite hero from Star Wars is. 

They’re always so adorably confused when I answer “Anakin Skywalker of course.”

I don’t know if there’s any other “Chosen One” type character who suffers more than him and suffers directly because of their own flaws. At least not in mainstream media.  

The reason why he’s so overpowered and “perfect” in the prequels is because the film assumes that we, as fans, already know where all of this is going -- the handsome, good-hearted hero we’ve come to know will get horribly maimed and become a monster. We’re meant to go “What a waste.” along with Obi-wan, with Yoda, with everyone who ever knew him as Anakin. We’re meant to scream “You were the Chosen One!” along with Obi-wan. 

And everyone believes him lost, including himself. 

Luke is the spark that reintroduces him to the light -- he’s a broken shell of a man and seeing his son that he thought had died sort of reinvigorates him in a way. He doesn’t go back to being a hero at first -- he goes back to being the Anakin we see in Revenge Of The Sith, still wanting to rule over “his” Empire with his family, the one remaining piece of his life with Padme that he still has. He regains his motivation for revenge, wanting to kill The Emperor and have Luke by his side.

Only in Return Of The Jedi does Anakin finally understand what it means to be the Chosen One -- self-sacrifice.

In the end, after so much pain, so much suffering, so much shit going wrong because of him, Anakin comes through and chooses to fulfill his destiny. 

Destiny chose him but both times, he proves that he cannot be predicted -- once with the Jedi and once again with Palpatine. 

The Jedi believes him to be their ultimate champion? He becomes the most infamous Sith Lord in the galaxy.

The Emperor thinks he owns Anakin forever? He throws him down a pit and regains his soul. 

Anakin is simultaneously the best “Chosen One” and the best “Fuck you” to the very concept of Chosen Ones ever. 

 Why did I make this post? 

No reason.

Can I just say how much I love the implications here? Harley and Ivy are known public figures. People know who they are, and recognize them. And this kid knows that, despite being violent criminals, they’re safe enough to go to for protection. Ivy is dead certain that the Batfamily will be okay with them intervening to protect a kid. That has some intersting implications - either she knows damn well where the lines lie and that this is overriding enough to get her a pass, or (more likely, given the first bit) this has come up before.

I think this illustrates that there is sometimes a separation between the types of villains. There are some villains who have little to no redeeming qualities like Joker and then you have what’s shown in this panel. Two of the most infamous villains with the mindset of, “Wait a minute! No, you don’t hurt children! They’re off limits!”

Oh look. It’s MY Batman. The real Batman, not the hypermasculine ultraviolent for the sake of ultraviolence asshole that keeps popping up in popular media.

The Batman who held Ace’s hand. The Batman who keeps trying to get his rogue’s gallery treatment. The Batman who hands low-tier thugs a Wayne Enterprises business card and says “call them about a job.” The Batman who isn’t black and white, the Batman who recognizes even “bad” people can do “good” things. The Batman who genuinely cares about people, not just punishment.

I, in particular, take Kevin Conroy’s Batman aka DC Animated Batman to be one of his best ever incarnations.

Batman is dark brooding rich boy with issues (his words, not mine) but underneath all that, he’s a good man who’s made it his goal in life to make sure that no other child will ever suffer the way he did. 

Superman might not get along with him all the time, but I hate it when they take it to mean that these two would kill each other in a heartbeat. Batman fighting Superman in Dark Knight Returns was treated as a HUGE deal because while they differ in in their methods, their ideologies were essentially the same (and also why BvS felt so fuckin’ lame -- their clash felt unearned). Batman keeps that Kryptonite because Superman trusts him and if that’s not a glowing endorsement of Bruce’s character, then I don’t know what is.

Mandalorian Spoilers!

Been watching the series, it’s pretty damn great, yadda yadda.

Two words though -- Bill Burr!

His character was one of the best parts of that episode.

He’s basically playing a villainous version of himself so his character, Mayfeld, a former Imperial Sharpshootah (not a Stormtrooper, wiseass) is very likable scumbag. He just plays an asshole to the absolute hilt and I wanted to kick his ass when he pretended to drop Baby Yoda.

The great thing is that as funny as he is (even got a great line referencing Gungans), there’s no doubt that he’s a dangerous mofo, second only to Natalia Tena’s feral Twi’lek, Xi’an, who’s heavily hinted to have known Mando intimately in the past.

He also got taken out by Mando in a super cool hallway scene.

Plus he and the others lived! I actually really liked that little ragtag crew which also included Clancy Brown playing a big red guy, a Devronian named Burg -- he’s the only one who I had thought definitely died and the way Mando takes him out would make Jason Voorhees proud with how shockingly brutal it was.  

Badass episode. Really hoping Bill, Natalia and Clancy make another appearance in a future season.

On a side-note, I’m going to watch Bill Burr’s infamous Philly rant and substitute “Philadelphia” for “Mandalore”.
