If she had to get out of the game, at least it wasn’t from someone running up and screaming at her. The doctor had been casual about it, and it gave her a clean escape as Henri wasn’t by her side. Of course the party was too much, after so long having only one on one conversations, could she really have been thrown into a full blown party with no warning? The moment they’d walked in, all she could think of was to leave and finally she had her opportunity. She left her drink on the table and slipped out the closest exit when she thought the coast was clear, following the hall until she got out to fresh air. The deck was completely empty, just about everyone on the boat must have been packed into the banquet hall for the party. It certainly felt like that.
The night breeze was refreshing, she hadn’t realized how warm she’d gotten from talking to all the different people until it blew against her face. It felt like she could breathe, and for the moment everything was calm. It could only be a brief moment, after all she couldn’t really disappear. Henri found her no matter what. She stood on the empty deck, struck with the fact that she had absolutely nothing in the world she wanted to do.
The sea stretched out on either side of the boat, illuminated by only the moon. It was peaceful, and it was something that only she had for this moment. A short lived moment, even the breezes and lapping of waves couldn’t drown out the sound of someone’s footsteps approaching. She turned quickly to see that it wasn’t Henri, instead it was just another passenger. In an effort to distract from the completely terrified look that must have been on her face, she attempted a greeting. “Not enjoying the party?”
Danny had been enjoying themself for the most part. It’s not like they were unused to fancy dress events and pretending to be someone they’re not. Even if usually they were pretending to be a snobby, self-concerned, elitist instead of a tattoo artist that lights fires for fun. They hadn’t expected to get out so quickly, truth be told they didnt expect to get out at all but introsecption told them that was a ridiculous thing to think, but the woman was polite enough about the situation so Danny found themself unable to get about it.
Deciding that since there was no use roaming about the hot, packed ballroom Danny decided to go outside for some fresh air and maybe some stargazing. Walking onto the deck all they could see was the inky blackness of the water. Not wanting to stand around they began to stroll with no particular destination in mind until they saw a figure. Conversation was always nice when it wasn’t overwhelmingly serious so they let themself make more noise to alert the person that someone was approaching.
The girl whipped around a terrified look on her face for an instant before it slid back into something looking more uncomfortable than anything. “I wouldn’t say I wasn’t enjoying it, I just got bored.” Danny shrugged. “What about you? Why are you out here by yourself instead of at the party?”
