i'd meet you where the spirit meets the bones references the village being somewhat of a graveyard, where our characters are basically returning from the "dead" to the land of the living -> in a faith forgotten land? being phoenix drop after all these years, practically deserted (i like seeing it as only a faith forgotten land because it's not entirely forgotten, many still remained in the village yet faith itself was not why they stayed; a good visual for this is aphmau and dante's reunion by the irene statue where the focus is on them and not irene herself)

in from the snow, your touch brought forth an incandescent glow the snow being the irene dimension, leaving it behind as they jumped through back to their own world, aphmau suddenly has these powers that do physically glow -> tarnished, but so grand this is more of a perception thing, but i take this as a reference to irene not exactly being the saint she was painted as; her powers are grand and beautiful, but tarnished by the truth of irene's past

and the old widow goes to the stone every day reminds me of aphmau at the irene dimension portal hoping garroth will return -> but i don't, i just sit here and wait, grieving for the living i've always pictured this from laurance's pov, slowly succumbing to these shadow knight tendencies; he grieves his old living self and tries to understand how the others felt while the rest were "dead"

i am in class right now so and don't have access to my original notes, but i'll try to find them if anyone is more interested in this!

aphmau and her boys are SO IMPORTANT TO ME

garroth who slowly finds himself guarding outside aphmau’s house late at night, overcome with a bone-deep fear that something will happen to her or her sons and he won’t be there to protect them. garroth who, immediately upon finding out zane is trying to wed her, sends a letter back with raven to dale and asks them to up defenses around her home for when they return from the eastern wolf tribe’s village.

laurence who will genuinely become standoff-ish when aphmau has conversations with strangers, the overwhelming feeling of alertness flooding through him as he studies every single action they make in case he needs to step in. laurence who stays up to listen to her breathing when they’re camping out, letting it ground him, a reminder that the shadow knights could not make him take away what is most important to him.

dante who will tease and scold garroth and laurence all he wants about how jealous and dumb (/aff) they are with aphmau but is somehow worse then both of them, hovering around her the entire time she wanders phoenix drop and he’s on duty. dante who is shorter than her, but will immediately takes a step in front of her and puff up the second anyone even remotely gives him the idea he needs to.
