n/a: SHORT FICLET? TEXT? IDK something I wrote inspired from this drawing, hope y'all enjoy!

Brian remembers well the first time he met Zenix. He had just come back from O'khasis after guard training, having earned his orange rank.

His mother threw him a feast - his father begrudgingly not asking questions- yet, that same night since he was quote:

'Younger and less experienced' they set him on night patrol, that is where he met him.

Zenix was stood by the housing 'district' of Phoenix Drop, deep in thought. He used to have a distinctive short haircut and wore a golden cross earring, as if signifying some kind of title or rank.

He wore a deep scarlet cape, one he only slipped on during winter to protect his chainmail clad body from the cold.

Though Brian never thought he'd meet another person with those demonic red eyes he was trying to escape. The same ones that have brought a world of pain upon his young mind.

Zenix, meanwhile, was enjoying the humanity these people made him feel. He had just 'turned' seventeen, a milestone for many, but a bitter reminder of what he's lost to the boy.

Brian though, in some twisted way, was like him, both broken from a young age, traumatized and forced into his bidding. If the burn of emptiness running across his face said anything, he was as much of a victim as Zenix was.

The magical veins left behind, well by being exposed to large amounts of Shadow Knight magic were apparent against his tanned skin, yet unlike Zenix, he always kept a good attitude and a big smile on his face.

If they knew they'd form such a close bond due to their experiences.

YES I CAN THINK ABOUT DALE!!!

Thinking. Thinking about a younger Dale who spent his days at the (one and only) tavern in Phoenix Drop that was owned by Molly's parents, Molly, who was working there as a bartender by the time Dale came here from the academy and they hit it off really..really good. Which started a lot of jokes about how they were a perfect match, especially after Molly inherited the tavern and Dale went doooown the alcoholic route.

I also would like to consider that there were more guards than . Garroth. Dale. And two teenagers/really young adults. So Aphmau and Dale friendship...sure his incompetence was frustrating at times, but he meant well. And he DID manage to recover!!!!

I also think about how he probably feels very guilty about everyhting. That happened with Brian. For forcing him into a life that HE wanted for the boy. Sending him at the academy. Not being able to get better for HIM. For the fact that his son after the time skip is missing. He never was a believer, but he still prays that one day he'll be back.

…Even though Levin was born first because he was already alive before Phoenix Drop lost Lord Malik, so if you think about it Brian should actually be YOUNGER than Levin…

…except that Levin is four years old when Brian is a full fledged guard. So uh. What happened there.
