A year fishing at the river Danube

This blog will follow my year 2018 fishing at the river Danube in Bavaria, Germany. It‘s my first year fishing at a stream and its tributarys instead of lakes and some smaller rivers. Main fishs shall be pike, carp and different kinds of whitefish. Fishing Season already started for me at 01/01! 😁 So come in and enjoy. 🐟🐟🐟

Finally!

Had not much time during the summer.

But here‘s a small bass from today.

There it is: Season‘s first eel! 66 cm. A pitty we had to quitt so early because of an upcoming thunderstorm.

Again some fishing for eel, but again no success. But got good entertained by a beaver which felled a tree on the other side of the river.

Beautiful morning for fishing. A pity I only had an hour or so for the best hobby in the world. Mr Beaver in the second pic thought the same, I suppose 😋 No fish but a nice strike at an artificial frog. Never caught anything with such a lure, but tons of failed attempts.

On and on it goes! First pike this season with a stickbait in shallow water.

Two days of fishing at a flooded gravel pit along the River Danube. Caught 3 trouts and a personal record tench with almost six pounds. Nice trip!

Again some casting for trout in the main river. Nice nature experience, sadly no fish.

Next attempt for Eel... Although we had 4 rods, we only had two minor bites. But great light nontheless

We have such great weather over the last few days... Woudn‘t mind just standing in the nature without casting.

The I-Phone cam really failed utter darkness... 😋 First try for eel this year. Had a pretty good attack, but the strike only led to loosing the bait in the rocks. So, sadly no catch

I have a run! After my first barbel yesterday, today the next one: I may proudly present: The King of Bavarian waters: Hucho hucho, the Danube Salmon! As yesterday, my first one of these.

First fish in 2018!!! Barbus barbus! Made a decent fight in the hard current. Can‘t describe how happy I am, since this one isn‘t only the first fish this year, it‘s also my first fish since last summer. Also lost 2 good fish today and yesterday.

Last try this spring for burbot. It‘s already late in year…. so again no catch. Don‘t know if these guys even exist.

Some casts at minus 6 degree for trout or bass. Kinda annoying when the top ring freezes over after every third cast. No fish but wonderful morning light!

Made a short trip to a nearby tributary of the river Danube, the small Egelseebach. Never been fishing there, but I‘ll definitly come back with the fly rod. Did some casting for trout or bass or chub, but didn‘t even see a fish 😶 Getting annoying...

Last Sunday we had a nice daytrip for trout 🎣 at the Walchensee in the Bavarian Alps. The 🎣 season starts here at March 1st, so there should be enough 🐟 to catch.
Beautiful weather, warm temperatures but no 🐟.
At the end of the day, we had some talk to local 🎣 licence dealer and he spoke of a better season start than last spring.
