The delusional level is off the charts today as i see.. Pretty sad.. there are no sq seeds, not happening, ever. I am not sure if you are just trolling now or just pathetic. When we see a cs wedding i wonder how will your mind be able to twist it and make it about some non existent seeds about non existent romantic sq.
let’s talk about this. Adam sent out an interesting tweet a couple of days ago about what started him thinking about fairy tales.
Haven’t made it to the library yet, but I found the introduction to the book online and the following lines jumped out at me.
Fairy tales are unique, not only as a form of literature, but as worksof art which are fully comprehensible to the child, as no other formof art is. As with all great art, the fairy tale’s deepest meaning will bedifferent for each person, and different for the same person at variousmoments in his life. The child will extract different meaning from thesame fairy tale, depending on his interests and needs of the moment.When given the chance, he will return to the same tale when he isready to enlarge on old meanings, or replace them with new ones. I’ll ignore your need to erase intentional homo-romantic subtext and hope you’ll figure out the reasons behind that need at some point in your life. Far more interesting to me is the fact that you felt the need to come to my Ask box at all.
Once Upon a Time leaves a lot up to the imagination. We complain about plot holes, but I feel like there is an upside to this as it allows us to insert ourselves into the story more freely. The way you relate to stories, it tells you something about yourself. The more this show makes use of symbols and metaphors, the more room I have to apply what I see to my own life. I’ve always considered this to partly be their intent and reading the introduction to this book has only confirmed it for me.
No matter what happens on the show, I suspect it will not radically change how either one of us relates to these characters. Clearly we are both engaged on an emotional level. A wedding between Emma and Hook would mean very little to me as an expression of romance and I will continue to try and find a meaning in the story that means something to me. I’m a lesbian, I’m used to finding myself in stories, looking for myself rather than being presented with a mirror. If someone you relate to is usually a character that dies, is the bad guy, in jail or who doesn’t get the happy ending, you either create one, or you explore what it means not get what you want on an emotional level. I’m used to my story being dismissed or not really being my story. You accusing me of being pathetic or trolling only tell me that you’ve probably never had to do this.
I feel I’m doing the opposite of pathetic, I’m taking life, taking story in my own hands and I refuse to let these things bother me. It allows me to be a functioning and happy adult. Not finding myself in story has both helped my imagination and my capacity for empathy. At the end of the day, we all face death, disease, betrayal, disappointments. Only where we are in life and what exactly we’ve experienced differs and that’s why maybe we find a different meaning for the same thing. It’s how they’ve been presented to us in our lives. It’s not something to argue about, it’s something to experience. I don’t care how different we are, we’re both human, aren’t we? Both feel lost when a loved one dies, feel hopeful and scared when we’re in love. We’ve both probably been hurt by others. Both felt like we couldn’t do something, had to face reality. Those basic experiences are the same, but how they manifest themselves in our lives, that’s different and that’s probably one of the reasons why we see things so differently.
So when I read a message like yours, I have to conclude that whatever you are reading in Once Upon a Time is very important to you on a personal level and you feel that my very different reading of the same story is a personal attack. It feels like by not seeing what you are seeing, I’m dismissing something that’s important to you. Why else would you have such an intense response? Why the insults to a complete stranger?
I don’t dismiss what you see, I support you. See what you see, work with the things that resonate with you. Figure out why it means so much, hell, figure out why I piss you off. I love this show because the projection and self-inserts teach me something about myself. It’s a very personal and intimate experience and maybe it’s strange on some level that we’re all online, sharing our personal interpretations of the same thing. It’s threatening at first to be confronted with how people see things differently… but it doesn’t have to be. Just see it for what it is. People finding meaning in something. All meanings can co-exist, it’s up to you to let them do so in your own mind.
