i feel like ive been seeing more posts about packers (at least jokes about them) which is really nice. i feel like there really isn't a lot of discussion around bottom dysphoria wrt Not having a penis (mostly because i think people are uncomfortable dealing with ideas around small/impotent/otherwise "non-functioning" penises) & as someone who no longer binds but always packs it's just nice to see it acknowledged & normalized

I really hope phallo scars can be as normalized as top surgery scars some day (at least in queer spaces), so people don't need to cover up their arms or be worried about wearing shorts. Same for art. I often see trans masc characters just be depicted as top surgery scars and no bulge, usually skinny too, with very little variation. Just putting some skin graft scars on a character would do so much to make having or wanting phallo feel less isolating and also help educate people. Especially with transphobes fear-mongering about your scars never healing or that the surgery just gives you a fleshtube instead of a penis, I think some more positivity is much needed.

& also it's super easy to add the most common kind of phallo scars into your art:

^ here's an example of what a fully healed scar can look like (from FinnTheinfinncible whose done a lot of videos on his experience with phallo). You can slap a graft scar onto a character just like you can with top surgery scars (& similarly there's a wide variety of ways it can look)!

Bottom surgery rep in art isn't just the realm of nsfw artists. The scars from skin grafts are a huge part of the fearmongering around phalloplasty, seen as evidence that it will permanently mutilate you and your arm will never work again (not true) & often presented using highly medicalized, unhealed or infected images that stigmatize trans bodies. Showing normal people living happy lives with phallo is so important & it would be wonderful to see more characters casually having graft scars.

lies i've been told by misinformed trans women pessimistic about the idea of vaginoplasty: "well what's the point if it doesn't get wet boo hoo we are simply cursed with No Options"

my surgeon at the consult: "my technique places your penile urethral tissue just inside the labia, where it will get wet when aroused, so that if you're making out with someone and they stick their hand down your pants they'll know you're interested. you will probably still want lube for full penetration, but it won't be bone dry."

the results of vaggie and phallo are not directly homologous to the "medical standard" of a cis vagina or penis but

not even all cis people have genitals that close to the "medical standard;" there are a variety of ways that genitals may differ from that standard on cis bodies. for example, hypospadias (urethral exit not at the tip of the penis) is extremely common. cis people often go their whole lives living with these genitals. or sometimes they get them revised, just like trans people sometimes get their bottom surgeries revised. or sometimes they're revised without their consent in medically unnecessary childhood surgeries. the last thing is not good but it's a reality plenty of cis people are living with

adherence to that medical standard is not really that important in the grand scheme of things, having genitals that allow you to exist and move and fuck in the ways that you want is important

building on that point, very cis-similar surgeries like vaggie and phallo are not the only ones available, and sometimes people want something else. and many of those something elses do exist! shallow labiaplasty. metoidioplasty. phalloplasty without vaginectomy. even phallus preserving vaginoplasty, which is currently hard to find but will hopefully become more accessible. many people choose these surgeries to get genitals which do not strive to emulate standard cis genitals, and they do so because that's what they want and it makes them happy

bottom surgery is real and there are thousands of people happy with the genitals they got from it. don't let doomerism about bottom surgery color your perception of it.

also if you like the genitals you already have, fuck yeah keep 'em. bottom surgery isn't a "requirement" or "rite of passage" in transness it's just one of the many optional ways we can modify and sculpt our bodies according to our own will.
