It had been over a month ago that Cana had gone missing. Â After trying to protect some people in a village from Zerefâs army she had been captured. Â At first she assumed that they would kill her, but in the end it was far worse. Â If Cana was one thing it was loyal, loyal to her guild, her family, but in the end loyalty only went so far. Â Three weeks in she broke, a lack of food coupled with the beatings and painful spells used against her, as well as the forced removal of her guild mark finally had Cana telling the enemy what she knew, and she hated herself for it. Â Hated herself for being weak and betraying her family. Â Hated that she eagerly ate an actual meal, her reward for cooperating with them, but they werenât about to let her go.
Four weeks into her captivity she noticed the shift in her captorsâ energy, and days later they began to pack up what they had. Â Whispers had been heard that the war was at an end, that Fairy Tail and the rest of Fiore had won, finally defeating Zeref and his forces. Â Cana could practically taste the freedom she would gain, except that it didnât come. Â They simply left, left Cana and the rest of their prisoners locked in cells.
At first Cana had tried to reassure her fellow captives, telling them that help would show up any day now. Â That Fairy Tail had to be looking for her, and they would come save everyone. Â But help never came. Â Cana had been smart enough to stash food away, a stockpile in case she had a chance to escape. Â It kept her going for a few days. Â The leak from the ceiling above her cell became a blessing as she was able to get some water when it rained, but the days continued to drag on. Â Slowly fewer and fewer voices would answer her as the place began to reek of death.
When the last voice failed to answer was when Cana gave up hope. Â Too weak from starvation to fight anymore she simply sank to the ground and curled up on the small mat that had been her bed. Â She dozed mostly, coming in and out of consciousness. Â Time had begun to lose meaning to her, she had lost track of the days, or even hours that passed between her short conscious moments.
It wasnât until she heard the rustling of feet on the ground that she was brought back to her awakened state. Â Were they here to kill her, finish the job, or was someone here to save her. Â Had Fairy Tail finally found her? Â As the footsteps got closer she heard the door to her cell open. She tilted her head towards the sound, eyes fluttering partially open, but unable to comprehend more that a dark shape above her.
