Did george see Gone with the wind movie?
No, he died before 1939!
did king george v and wallis simpson ever meet? what did they think of one another, first impressions?
Yes, she came to Buckingham Palace for a ball. He was very polite towards her. He was actually SO nice that David and Wallis were convinced that he believed that Wallis was just David's friend. Of course that is not true, he knew Wallis was his mistress and was infuriated!
George and Mary in Canada, 1901, when duke and duchess of Cornwall
A rare photo at Sandringham, 1895.

Do you think Nicholas would've fared better with a wife like Mary? Likewise do you think George would've fared worse with a wife like Alexandra? Not to put all the responsibility onto women, of course. But I do feel like your privat life can very much affect your public/work life.
I think both situations are quite layered, but I do think Alexandra influenced Nicholas to become untrusting (and isolated) like her. She also added a lot of pressure on him privately which wasn't helpful. In contrast, Mary became a lot less confrontational with George after he became King out of respect of his high stress levels.
Russia needed a true visionary at that point in history, and Nicholas needed to be surrounded by wise and forward thinking people to lead Russia correctly. I think history wouldn't been so catastrophic if Nicholas had married Mary, but it is hard to say if it would have fully prevented the Romanov's from losing power. SO many aspects of the Romanov's was completely adversed to what was needed in the 20th century, and many in the family were very unwilling to bend for the modern era.
George's position was not really vulnerable like Nicholas's. I think if Alexandra was the British Queen she easily could have rarely went out in public and snubbed the British aristocrats without consequences. English people would have also been more understanding to her "chilly nature" since many are reserved in upper class circles.
Do you know anything about Eddie? besides the general "he was dumb and possibly gay/jack the ripper" that's always said about him. A thing I find curious is how few women seemed interested in him in regards to marriage (as far as I know). He was heir and good looking. Was it really down to him being not bright and sleeping around?
I think so! It seems like to me that he was annoying and couldn't follow social cues. He was probably a good person, but not the romantic ideal for a husband.
why did george dislike his parents-in-law so much?
Mary, Duchess of Teck was always late and extravagant. She also took up a lot of her daughter's time which kept her from George. Not exactly sure about his issues with Mary's father.
did George believe in God?
Yes, he was very religious.
were George V and q. Mary scrutinized by media when they were prince and princess of wales, like William and Catherine who get a bad press now?
From my understanding, the press in England did not become as gossipy towards the Royal Family until around the 70s-80s.
In George and Mary’s time, London society gossiped about the royal family similar to how tabloids do today. Mary once remarked while in Europe, how it was nice to not be scrutinized over everything she did. This remark was in result to the difference of when Mary was in Europe she was praised, yet the English Society always focused on faults.

Why did george V say happy christmas instead of merry christmas?
I think that's the English tradition. I am an American and we say Merry Christmas, but I have English relatives who always say Happy Christmas. Am I right about this?
how can someone who likes George V, also like someone like Edward VIII? Can you name one single redemptive quality that pathetic little man had? His supremacist view? His love of Hitler? His treatment of his youngest brother? His lack of concern for his sick father and later for his sick brother? Him chasing everything with a skirt?? His selfishness? His pettiness? His betrayal? He was repulsive!
I think you are mistaken, I do not respect David like I do George and Mary.
Overall, I agree with George and Mary's view of David's bad behavior, yet feel like David is slightly relatable in someways. He didn't want to be King, just like many today do not like their jobs, but unlikes us, him turning away from his job was also turning away from his family. I think he felt torn about this (with his selfish nature battling against his love for his family), but gradually iced out his family and overly focused on his mistress, Wallis, who was his gateway and excuse, and in a delusional state after MANY years of torment (there are letters from WWI hinting how he didn't want to be King) believed that his family were going to celebrate his abdication because he was doing it because he was in love.
I do not think David made many right decisions, but I do think he is very interesting and tragic.
I know it sounds like a strange question but was George a germophobe? I have seen many clips and photos where he wears gloves and hated when one of his grandsons coughed near him
He became a hypochondriac when he was older! I think he found it disrespectful that some would still try to socialize with him if they were sick since he was the King.
I also want to ask is it true that George Ioathed americans?
No, he didn't hate them. Yet George liked tradition, so The United States didn't appeal to him. In those days the USA and England were two different worlds, and it was felt that the two countries were very different culturally and socially, unlike today where it much more similar.

A 1904 postcard from Prince Albert (George VI) to his father, the Prince of Wales (George V)
The card features a photographic print of Windsor Castle, which has been painted by the Prince. He has come up with a unique way to sign the card - a flag flying his nickname Bertie appears at the top of the Round Tower.
