Cough Syrup. I’ve seen comments that this should have been Kurt’s solo because of all he’d been through (and the Dave element). But I truly think it’s right that Blaine sang it, given all he’d been through , that was touched upon but never developed, and basically affected his whole life. I see it as a cry for help as well, though it was never followed up on. Plus it’s his best solo, imao.

The thing that drives me crazy about fandoms in general is the inability to let a story play out. Just because something doesn’t make sense (to you) in that exact moment doesn’t mean it won’t get elaborated on.
So in your question about Blaine’s depression, i’d explained all the ways he’d was getting triggered for the breakdowns we season in seasons 4, 5 and 6. At this point, he’s already come to McKinley where he was blamed for Glee club falling apart (it was Will’s fault), he’d only just made up with Finn, and just fought with Sam who he has not befriended yet. Now We’re in the period he discusses in Dance with Somebody where all Kurt is talking about is leaving.
Things going on with Blaine:
1. He’s just returning to school after eye surgery
2. The surgery were caused by his former best friends
3. His boyfriend’s brother did not want him at McKinley
4. Half of glee club quit when he got there and joined another club.
5. The remaining half of glee club blames him
6. His only “friends” based on background interactions are Mike and Kurt, both seniors.
7. All Kurt talks about is leaving.
Yeah, i’d be singing sad songs too.
Also, we’d seen Kurt sing about what he was dealing with. At this point, we’re all lead to believe that everything’s coming up Hummel and he’s getting into NYADA based on the scene with Burt in Michael. Kurt, as of this episode, is not having a bad time.
Everything on Glee didn’t have to be about Kurt all the time.
