hi anon!! i think it’s a long time for a dog to go alone, especially without getting out to toilet. i don’t think it’s impossible, but i think it may take some extra consideration in terms of management and dog selection.

being able to stop home over lunch or have someone else drop by to toilet/walk your dog partway through the day would be ideal.

Hi do you have any resources for training older dogs that havent received training before? My parents recently took in a dog of someone who could no longer take care for it and id like to help them train him hes like a racoon hound if you know anything about that. Thanks and sorry if this is a bother

hi anon sorry i missed this last night!! there are a ton of resources on learning to train dogs – i like some of the free ones at this link. i would also include resources by Dr. Sophia Yin, Patricia McConnell, and Jean Donaldson, who i don’t think are represented there. 

i also think (once the plague is over) a family dog training class can be a great option for teaching an adult dog some manners and basic behaviors. i’d recommend looking for positive-based training classes – CPDT-certified trainers are ideal (and there’s a directory here). you can also find some classes at Petco and Petsmart stores, though i’d encourage you to support local dog training businesses if possible!

While walking to work I saw the most beautiful golden(?) retriever, it was like white blonde unlike any golden I’ve seen before, and when I passed by it jumped on me for wiggly pets. The owner was incredibly embarrassed & I was incredibly ecstatic. The dog playfully bit my finger with her tiny front teeth which is weirdly my favorite dog thing? Anyways a truly blessed moment I wanted to share with a golden retriever supremacist
