dropout posts on the dash, where's the video of Sam Reich joking about transfems being predators
kill your white boy for me
kill your white boy for me
remember that time they aired an episode where Chris Grace said "Esk*mo kiss" and, in response to the backlash, they and Grace separately issued statements + edited it out of the episode? still waiting on Reich's statement about this
hint: this time it can't be played off as an honest mistake.
#am i dumb i genuinely don't understand what his comment was supposed to mean#even the... host? seemed confused #like i genuinely don’t get it #and i am trans woman fyi #is it really that simple and I'm just like “that can't be it”
it is that simple, yes. a rich, powerful white man essentially said, "funny to be called a pedophile by a man wearing a lot of makeup" and expected everyone to laugh at it.
it's notable that the response was confusion. they knew that what he said was objectionable, they were trying to find a way to avoid that conclusion and couldn't find one. I also had this moment of confusion.
we, all of us, have been taught to dismiss and excuse transmisogyny. we've internalized it, the confusion happens automatically. deliberate effort is required to overcome that impulse to dismiss, and even that relies on us having noticed it happening at all.
he didn't acknowledge it because he knew he didn't have to. everyone in the room let it slide, they aired it uncritically, there is no outrage about it. it's just an awkward joke.
It's kind of killing me that people are so determined to say maybe he didn't mean it, maybe he didn't connect those dots so exactly...
Is that not part of the problem? Is it NOT part of the problem that we can give plausible deniability to this because maybe the person perpetuating the bigotry didn't KNOW he was?
I don't care if he somehow didn't know what he said and his that connects to larger bigotries, several people in this room DID. Even if the dots aren't as easy to connect, there's a balk.
And even ALL that aside, yeah, the joke comes down to "interesting to be called any kind of degenerate by a man in makeup" and it is part of the larger problem of transmisogyny. No matter how you wanna try to water this down, it's still a problem.
hey @dropoutdottv do you figure this is worth thinking about or do I not have enough followers? should I make a fucking instagram???

I'm so sorry to tell you this, but I just saw someone make a blog specifically for trans men to talk about trans women being abusive titled "transmascvoicesproject" and with you having just put a pause in your project, I don't think this is at all a coincidence. As in yes, it's transmisogynistic, but to make it even more gross, they're probably also specifically doing it because they saw your post about pausing submissions. The tag is #transmasc voices project, incase you're interested in blocking it or anything else
you know it's always been a fear of mine that someone would copy tvp and change up the wording to create a male version and frame it as an equal counterpart, subtracting from the purpose of tvp which is to center transfem survivors... but never in my worst nightmares did I imagine they would make their project specifically about abuse from transfems and nobody else. fucking horrific
I was about to say I'm glad it's so transparently ghoulish and disingenuous that it will never get taken seriously, but well, let's fucking see lmao
this is actually disgusting. to blatantly steal an idea from a transfem without credit, the purpose of which was to help marginalized voices speak up against violence from all places, not just trans men
and to twist it into something that uplifts the already dominant voices of the trans sphere, that specifically only accepts submissions when the submitter is talking about violence from transfems.
this is so fucking transmisogynistic and it hides under the guise of uplifting survivors of sexual assault.
Never been clearer that people like this view TME/TMA as a binary of and between trans people, rather than the specific identification of who is and is not affected by one kind of bigotry.
You're not centering their healing, you fucking shitheel. The point of the TVP is that a small group with a minority of power is constantly sexually assaulted by everyone else on the planet, while this "project" is, for some reason, focusing on presenting trans feminine people as uniquely and especially dangerous and harmful to "TME's"; rhetoric that has existed and been used to socially murder us for decades at this point.
This isn't a revolutionary new campaign to shed light on an unacknowledged system of abuse and harm that's occurring under our noses, it's a blatant tool of transmisogynistic oppression.
Returning to my first point, flipping TME and TMA like this is self-evidently wrongheaded and ignorant to what they are. This assumption that TME refers specifically and exclusively to trans masculine people for some fucking reason is the most self-centered birthday boy bullshit, and it would be laughable if it wasn't being used to further buttress the idea that we're uniquely predatory and evil.
"Why is it that when trans mascs attempt to analyze the exact same dynamics regarding TMA assailants, it is suddenly framed as a distraction from our own healing?"
Because TME and TMA are not interchangeable in this way, and an "assailant" being TMA does not carry the same, or any, systemic weight, power of oppression, or abuse via privilege, that those who are exempt from transmisogyny do when they abuse, rape, assault, gaslight, and correctively rape a transmisogynized person.
The only thing about the replies on their posts that encourages me somewhat is that even trans masculine folk who think TME/TMA is "bullshit" think that this shit stinks/is bait. They know this is what actual divisiveness looks like, they know this is a disgusting way to talk about trans women, even if they don't think it's worth talking about our unique oppression.
I feel like most TME people are sexually abused/assaulted by OTHER TME PEOPLE!!! To act like there is a "specific type of of coercion and harm" that transfems are inflicting on trans men and transmascs, in addition to "other TMEs" (is it the "transmasc voices project" or the "everybody, including cis people, come gang up on transfems project"?) is so GROSSSSSS!!!!!!! Like Salix said, flipping the dynamic around does nothing to equalize discussions of harm because TMA refers to one of the most marginalized and demonized groups in society and TME refers to LITERALLY EVERY OTHER HUMAN BEING ON THE FUCKING PLANET!
Also, it's genuinely so fucking vile to steal this idea--down to the very wording of the pinned post--from a trans woman and then insist that transfems are your oppressive abuser class.
