i need to reread the dancestor parts of homestuck since last time i read them it was with a 16 year old's expectation of the behavior of a 19 year old (very grown up, old enough to do anything, should know how to behave as an adult at this point) and now i can reread them with a 24 year old's perspective on the behavior of a 19 year old (someone who is 3 years older than a 16 year old)

she was groomed by doc scratch as a young child, she became the mother to both her species and a universe at 13, to say nothing of the audience's perception of her—how often has she been portrayed as the mom friend? as the towering badass ruthless girlboss (a perception which always seems to have a sexual undertone) who never faltered or struggled in her teenage years? why does the responsibility always fall to her shoulders? how come she never gets to be treated like any other teen girl? let's not forget that this is a phenomenon that's heavily biased towards black girls
