First swim of the year 😊
Can we go back to suicide baiting Neil gaiman. I feel like we’ve lost sight of what’s important here, which is suicide baiting Neil gaiman. ‘This should have happened’ ‘that should have happened’ Wrong. Neil gaiman should have killed himself instead of being slowly and quietly brought back into the cultural consciousness by amazon and various comics publishers etc
Every time women adapt in order to overcome the strength disparity between us and men as a way to defend ourselves in a worst case scenario or avoid danger altogether... That adaptation comes to be seen as a sign of cowardice by men.
Poison being a "woman's weapon" in a disparaging sense. Self defense laws expecting people to act in ways that are only really accessible to men and women who choose to strike at a later time being demonized. Gossiping to turn the community against him and seek refuge that way (plus making sure no other woman is blindsided by his behavior) being seen as trashy.
More modernly, leaving someone over text being considered a terrible and inconsiderate thing. I remember this being a plot point in so many cartoons and tv series for tweens growing up. It's so insidious to brainwash girls into believing they owe someone, usually a guy, a "dignified breakup" when that has so often gotten women killed. I dunno, men trying to socially punish women for not playing their honor games when they've never acted honorably towards us has been pissing me off as of late.
researching the history of education in japan and learning that, pre–Meiji Restoration, peasants/commoners formed their own schools to become educated because it was the best way of fighting tax fraud.
That is, when an official told you, a rice farmer, that you owed more taxes than you really did, it was very useful if you were good enough at math to know he was lying (and could prove it) and if you were good enough at writing to write a letter to your government defending your case.
all of which is to say it's crazy that mega-corporations are now pushing education to be "what if you paid us whatever we tell you to for the rest of your life and never do math or write anything ever again"
you have to learn to interrupt automatic negative thoughts. it won’t feel natural, but it’s important to be deliberate in changing bad thoughts into compassionate, self-healing ones in order to feel better and happier in the long term.
the strongest bond is probably pad wings to themselves. the weakest is probably pad wings to your underwear
I love the sales, when things are the price they should have been originally.
This is the best description I’ve heard for this method, I always thought it was bullshit because I never heard a description that actually explained how to do this other than “tap your head 20 times”.
I have anxiety-induced hissing, which sounds/feels different from sound-induced tinnitus (which I have also experience). Sound-based tinnitus actually sounds like you’re “hearing” something in your ears, whilst the hissing I have feels like it’s “inside my head”, if that makes sense. But this technique still helps!!
Here’s a visual I found because I couldn’t understand the instructions well
My ringing just went away for the first time in years. What is this blissful quiet.
wait wait i gotta try this, i don’t think i’ve had Actual Silence since i was like 5
HOW THE FUCK
Reblogging to save a life, and also because, even if you don’t have tinnitus, this is totally worth trying if you like new sensory experiences.
ID: A youtube comment with 11 likes by Niceone, it says "I've lived 46 years without knowing this. How nice of life to save some of the best bites for later." End ID.
Normally, people tend to get frustrated, even jokingly, if they miss out on something. This comment was on a song from 1974 and it made me smile quite much. Simply appreciative. Like a dessert after dinner.
It is genuinely mind blowing to me just how many Tumblr posts have changed my life for the better and taught me to be happier. Not all of the thoughts originate on Tumblr, but the way people collect and frame them has literally changed my brain chemistry.
Seeing people I know and like using AI is making me understand the protagonists of those old time sci fi dystopia's.
"Oh I don't normally use AI, I just wanted it to plan my trip"
You lived on this planet for decades, you know what you like, there are hundreds of websites where you can type into any search engine " things to do in [area]" and have at least a hundred different options.
"Oh I only use it so I can figure out what to make during the week with what I have"
The most popular website as you type in "recipes" into google have sections where you click dinner- quick and easy and those usually rely on staples + 1 or 2 items. I found 30 recipes on chicken alone.
"I had a writing idea, so I typed a few sentences into Chat GPT and I was able to write 20 pages with it."

americans are a saudi oil baron's idea of classy. brits are an american's idea of classy. the french are a brit's idea of classy. unfortunately the chain ends here since the french's idea of classy is also the french
Not to be a bummer on this fine Thursday afternoon, but I just saw an article about an 11-year-old kid who died of rabies after waking to find a bat on his nose and mouth; his parents didn't seek immediate medical attention because they didn't see any injuries on him, and they didn't feel the bat had been acting erratically. By the time he went to the hospital, he was already symptomatic and it was too late.
Bat bites or scratches are incredibly small and often hard to see. If you've had contact with a bat in an area with rabies, the common advice is to get a rabies shot to be on the safe side. In the U.S., you can contact the health department if you think you've been in contact with a bat. If you know you were bitten or scratched by a bat, wash the wound and seek medical attention immediately.
Rabies is essentially 100% fatal. The few survivors are statistical outliers. Once symptoms start, it's too late to get the vaccine, and there is no treatment. You are fucked at this point. You will die. Do not fuck around with rabies. Getting a series of shots as a precaution is a whole lot better than dying of rabies.
