El Cajon police kill 30-year-old black man Alfred Olango

Police in El Cajon, California, fatally shot 30-year-old black man Alfred Olango who some witnesses said was unarmed, had mental disabilities, and had his hands up in the air, NBC 7 San Diego reported on Tuesday evening, spurring protests even as authorities disputed the circumstances of the shooting.

Authorities say officers responded to reports of an “erratic subject” who refused to comply with orders at a public shopping center in the city. At least one officer subsequently opened fire. There were also reports that 911 was called because Olango was having a seizure.

As sizable protests formed at the scene, they were met with an equipped police presence.

UPDATE: Authorities say Olango had a “vaping device” in his hands.

One day after Alfred Olango, a black man who reportedly had a mental illness, was shot and killed by police in El Cajon, California, investigators are saying Olango pointed a “vaping device” at officers, causing one of them to discharge their weapon.

Meanwhile, protesters marched through the streets Wednesday night, partially blocking off a freeway exit.

Yo, at this point I'm straight up sick of the word "offended." I only ever hear it in the context of some jagoff telling me I shouldn't be "offended" by racist-ass jokes from dipshit hacks like Jeff Dunham, as though that shit is "edgy" and not just centuries-old bullshit. That, or I shouldn't be "offended" when white cops get away with murdering unarmed black men or manhandling black children who talk back to their teachers or swim in a public pool. Fuck all this noise. And fuck the police.

Yeah, I get it. That’s the kind of thing that, at this point, implies that if your reaction to injustice isn’t some kind of personal fear or sadness, it’s not a valid thing. Or that, your reaction to bigotry is viewed through some weak, involuntary offense of your sensibilities. Like all bigotry, it’s interesting (not that interesting) how there’s an implied sense of, like, Victorian femininity being implicitly denigrated with this shit as well, as if being able to power through the “offense” of racism is somehow a desirable, masculine trait. Fuck.
