the thing that hurts the most is not being anyone’s first priority.
i’ve been alone most of my life. it’s my own fault. i spent most of my life pushing others away, and ended up hurting the few i let in. now i’m 23, a college dropout, unemployed, a junkie. i have no way to make new connections, and the bitter truth is that everybody else in my age group here has already found the social circles they’ll be part of for the rest of their lives. even if people were able to get past my scars and my addiction, i’d never truly matter to them the way so many people have mattered to me.
bpd is great
don’t know if reassuring, but 23 was about the age I drifted away from almost all of my friends, moved to a new city because one or two of the people I knew there were better to me than anyone from my home city, and soon after I drifted apart from them also.
I made a few new friends online (livejournal!) and eventually met up and I’m still very close with some of them, and others have drifted in and out of my small but strong friend circle.
I do need to mention that a lot of these friendships have been helped greatly by my partner, who is more likely to set up social events and foster the relationships than me, but now I’m 30-something I do have a nice group of people I can count on if I need them, I can trust that they are not jerks, and none of these people I knew before I was 23.
it’s hard though. maybe I just got lucky?
