Migraines and Studying
As a person that suffers from migraines, I thought this might be useful to other students who also struggle with migraines and don’t know what to do.
Know what causes your migraines. Migraines can be caused by various things, and each is specific to each individual. Some of the common triggers can be: fatigue, overuse of electronics, dehydration, and overworking or stress. If you notice that you tend to get migraines after spending hours at the computer or when you haven’t had enough sleep, try to amend your lifestyle so that you can attempt to prevent migraines if possible.
If you get any warning signals, stop working immediately. If you get any warning signals, such as spots/flashing lights in your vision etc, stop working immediately. It means you are in stage two of the migraine, and trying to work through it will make it even worse.
The best way to get rid of a migraine is rest. Draw the curtains, turn out all of the lights, get some water and stay in bed. If you become dizzy and vomit when having migraines, place a bucket or a bowl near your bed to help reduce the distant to the nearest sink or toilet. Rest as much as you can, as this is beneficial to your recovery.
Don’t study or work whilst you have a migraine. This will only make you feel worse, and it is unlikely that you will end up being productive.
If it affects your life on a weekly basis, see your doctor. Doctors will prescribe you specific medication that will help keep your migraines under control, and also help ease the pain whilst you do have migraines. I would highly recommended this if you suffer regularly, as I have found this to be more effective than using painkillers.
I hope this is useful to you, and remember - if you are really suffering with migraines, please see a medical professional as they will be able to help you.
Inspired by an ask to @emmastudies.
