One of these days, I'm gonna need a transmasc creator to make a cartoon that starts out with an all-girl cast, only to constantly drop hints that some of them might turn out to be trans men by the end of the story. Leaving the fans to speculate which characters it'll be, and constantly end up second-guessing themselves and probably get into fights with other fans about it.

And then the show ends and it turns out all of them were trans men the entire time.

Girl who is the Perfect Pretty Girl, whose entire life is about being The Perfect Pretty Girl and always chasing what everyone else thinks she should be (-nastiest faith imagineable voice- "What, so you're saying women transition into men to escape patriarchy?" No because clearly the performance of the perfect pretty girl is her chasing what everyone else wants her to be as a woman and not what she wants, which is not to be one at all)

Girl who dresses exclusively in skate-and-surf wear who looks like the tomboy from every cartoon in the nineties/early two thousands who goes by either her last name or a shortened, masculine version of her first name. Has crushes on guys in the outside cast but for some reason the idea of acting on them or having them reciprocated makes her want to throw up ("Ugh, girls can be masculine, don't just assume a girl is a boy just because she likes boy things.")

Butch lesbian who flirts with being a he/him dyke but keeps shying away from it for some reason, who buys all of her clothes from the men's section and clearly would like you to think of her as a guy, uses exclusively masculine terms other than the pronoun thing ("This is lesbian erasure!" After he embraces the he/him pronouns as a man he continues to identify as a lesbian. For some reason this is also controversial.)

Girl who is aggressively Ordinary, like an extremely Ordinary Girl, there's nothing particularly remarkable about her girlhood... but she's also a raging fujoshi who loves to project onto her boylove fantasies and is only happiest when she can imagine herself in a gay love story. Which could mean nothing. ("Oh, so she fetishizes gay men?")

Girly theatre kid who is surely safe from all those men trying to erase female characters... but for some reason all of those men trying to erase female characters keep pointing out that her approach to femininity always seems to come in the form of theatricality. Vintage fashion and make-up, historical dress, very performative, though not performative in the way the Perfect Pretty Girl is. Also, for some reason one of her special interests is the parts of history where men played women's roles in the theatre. Which could mean nothing. ("She literally likes being a girl, why else would she enjoy women's fashion so much?")

Girl who is a feminist and openly supports trans rights. As an ally. It doesn't pertain to her though. She's just being a good ally. She doesn't even care if someone mistakenly misgenders her! Because she's a good ally who wants to normalize the idea of not needing to match pronouns to appearance. Many such cases. (I don't think I have to explain what the nasty bad faith voice has to say about this one.)

Girl who uses masculine terms and calls herself a gentleman and tries to act chivalrous. You know, ironically. Because she's a girl. A girl can be a gentleman. A girl can use masculine terms. Gender's all fake anyway guys ha ha ha. ("So you're just invalidating the idea that woman can use masculine terms without being men, is that it?")

It's pride month. I wanna talk about Veil and being Aromantic.

Veil is a manga that I hold dear to my heart, not just because of the beautiful artwork, but the relationship of Alexander and Emma throughout. In one of the afterwords, the creator talks about how the two have this relationship where they aren't quite friends but they aren't lovers either. Hence the title "Veil", referring to the ambiguity of their relationship.

Let me tell you why this manga means a lot to me.

I've always had weird feelings about romantic relationships. I've been in a few, they didn't end well for one reason or another. However, something constant within them was how I felt about my partners. I never felt like a romantic partner nor did I really think of them like one either. Like with so many things, it felt like there were these unspoken rules that I didn't know or there were ways I needed to act and feel that didn't fit with how I truly felt. And the one time I thought I felt something for another person, it ended up being this jumbled mess of feelings I couldn't understand either or what we were to each other; it ended up destroying our friendship.

I didn't start identifying with being Aromantic until I was about 18-ish. Even so, I wasn't sure what that meant for me; was I repulsed by love? Did I care for it? I didn't know. There were hardly any romance stories I related to or longed to have. The closest story I could name that resonated with me heavily was Hunter x Hunter, and how free spirited Gon and Killua were. But I craved some form of intimacy, something personal. To be close with someone that our relationship couldn't be defined in a way, and it didn't need to be, because it didn't matter.

Then I read Veil (possible spoilers if you haven't read it)

The bond Alexander and Emma share is one of, if not, the most beautiful relationship I've read/watched in anything I've ever seen/read. There are no labels, no complications in each other's emotions, they don't care to ask about what they are to each other because they understand each other on a level I could only hope to have with someone. They don't ever read into the others' behaviors (such as giving gifts or offering touches) and try to over analyze them. They sleep in the same bed, but nothing happens. They simply enjoy each other, and flow freely from that.

Over the course of the manga the veil they have does thin out; Emma even reveals some personal feelings about how she's lived before meeting Alexander (from a psychological perspective). It's almost like a confession, but it isn't. It's a reaffirmation of what we've already read. To me, that veil isn't meant to be them slowly falling in love, but letting the other person in and becoming closer and closer. It's intimate and in a way it is romantic, but they still don't read as lovers to me. It's more than just any label can define, and a bond that doesn't need one. They don't need labels or rules, they only need each other.

That's what I want, more than anything I think.

i do think the negative interpretations of "im probably nonbinary but i have a job right now" are kind of reaching. it's obviously a waste of time to theorize the op's intended meaning, so instead i think it's better to recognize how the phrase can be a useful framing device to criticize how much of a fucking hassle it is to get gendered correctly. "but i have a job" e.g. will face discrimination that could threaten livelihood; e.g. don't have the mental bandwidth to explain gender to others; e.g. don't have the time and energy for the soul-searching necessary to confirm. all three of these are labor issues. yes you could interpret it as "but being nonbinary isn't important enough to worry about", despite that being a blatantly bad-faith read. it's more useful to interpret it as "but being publicly nonbinary requires a lot of social effort that, in many cultural contexts, will create more problems that you can't afford to deal with". like cmon it's a really good jumping off point for productive conversations about queer labor rights

Unlike the vast majority of anti-trans legislation, hate groups are attempting to pass these restrictions without the public at large knowing they exist. This secrecy is far more insidious, and needs to be immediately addressed.

I strongly encourage you to take the time to read this article to get informed on what this proposal entails, and write a detailed response concerning one or two aspects that you believe you can write cohesively about and prepare a sensible counter-argument; try to draw from other sources if you can, even if you're just quoting other articles in support and in defense of HRT and transfeminism. I encourage everyone to review this official list of what they're expecting from a quality comment.

I am an attorney who tracks regulation for a living. That the FDA is being so secretive about this is HIGHLY unusual.

As my followers may know, I usually don't recommend submitting "I don't like this" comments on proposed rules. However, in this case, I think its worth it to generate a robust public record opposing this shit. The tips on how to draft more in-depth comments are excellent, and I would encourage submitting substantive comments if you can - particularly if you are a medical expert or have some other kind of relevant expertise. However, if an "I don't like this" comment is all you're able to submit (no judgment btw, submitting a substantive comment is not easy), do it. I'm not convinced that we'll change FDA's mind here, but we can create an overwhelming public record which could be useful for any future legal challenges.
